Market Analysis
Both coffee futures markets recorded gains in the latest session. Arabica continued its strong upward momentum, setting new record highs, while Robusta saw a modest recovery. A key driver behind New York’s rally was the strengthening of Brazil’s currency against the USD, which provided strong support for Arabica prices.
This marks the ninth consecutive session of price increases for Arabica, reaching the highest level in history. The surge is largely driven by growing concerns over tightening supply.
According to Reuters, Brazil’s Arabica coffee production is expected to drop 12.4% to 34.7 million bags in 2025 due to extreme heat and drought during the pre-flowering stage, which negatively impacted crop yields.
Additional Factors Affecting Coffee Prices
Experts highlight that logistics and shipping costs are also contributing to the rising global coffee prices. Severe port congestion in Brazil has caused significant delays and disruptions at export hubs.
Domestic Coffee Production & Weather Conditions
In Vietnam, over 90% of the total coffee-growing area has already been harvested. Initial estimates projected a 10-15% decline in production compared to the previous season. However, current assessments suggest that the decline may be only around 5%, which is a more optimistic outlook.
Meanwhile, the Central Highlands region is experiencing dry season conditions, with above-average temperatures and low rainfall levels. This weather pattern could further impact coffee bean quality, potentially leading to lower yields and continued price increases.
