 Tuesday, February 4,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area, fell to 127,700 - 128,800 VND per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Domestic Market Updates:
  • Lam Dong: Di Linh, Lam Ha, Bao Loc – 127,700 VND/kg
  • Dak Lak: Cu M'gar – 128,600 VND/kg, Ea H'leo & Buon Ho – 128,500 VND/kg
  • Dak Nong: Gia Nghia – 128,800 VND/kg, Dak R’lap – 128,700 VND/kg
  • Gia Lai: Chu Prong – 128,600 VND/kg, Pleiku & La Grai – 128,500 VND/kg
  • Kon Tum: 128,600 VND/kg
Global Coffee Market Trends:
  • Robusta: London futures for March 2025 fell 184 USD/ton to 5,534 USD/ton, while May 2025 futures dropped 174 USD/ton to 5,520 USD/ton.
  • Arabica: New York futures for March 2025 rose 3.05 cents/lb to 380.9 cents/lb, while May 2025 increased 3 cents/lb to 374.35 cents/lb.
Robusta's decline was anticipated due to post-Tet market reopening in Vietnam. Speculative selling pressure has also driven prices down. Meanwhile, Arabica prices are supported by U.S. tariff policies on South American countries and fluctuations in the USD. Additionally, 70-80% of Brazil’s Arabica stock has already been sold, leading to slower new transactions.
Vietnam’s Coffee Industry Achievements in 2024:
  • Vietnam remains the world’s largest Robusta producer and exporter, despite fierce global competition.
  • In 2024, Vietnam exported 1.32 million tons of coffee, generating $5.48 billion – a 18.8% drop in volume but a 29.1% increase in value compared to 2023.
  • Domestic coffee prices surged to a record high of 135 million VND/ton in 2024, reflecting strong demand and limited supply.
  • Global coffee production in 2023-2024 was 168 million bags (60 kg each), with Arabica at 96.4 million bags and Robusta at 71.6 million bags. Vietnam produced 26.5 million bags of Robusta, while Brazil followed closely with 21.4 million bags.
Vietnam's export market share in global green coffee trade was 18% in 2024, shipping 1.32 million tons out of 7.19 million tons worldwide. However, competition is rising as other countries like India, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Thailand, and Malaysia are increasing Robusta production.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s total coffee production reached 3.98 million tons in 2024, with Robusta output estimated at 1.29 million tons. Brazil's Robusta exports surged 107.4% year-over-year to 522,000 tons, intensifying competition in global markets.
Additionally, FOB coffee export prices skyrocketed, at times commanding a premium of $1,500/ton over futures prices. This led to a sharp rise in domestic coffee prices, making it challenging for exporters to secure supplies.
Vietnam’s coffee industry has entered 2025 with strong momentum, cementing its dominance in the global Robusta market despite increasing competition.
