DAILY: Vietnamese rice prices decreased slightly on February 4, 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang Province, rice prices recorded a slight decrease of 1,000 VND/kg for some varieties on February 4, 2025. Notably, Dai Thom 8 rice dropped to 6,600 – 6,800 VND/kg, while other varieties such as IR 50404, OM 5451, and OM 380 remained stable.

At the An Giang market, rice prices showed no significant fluctuations. Regular rice was listed at 16,000 – 17,000 VND/kg, while fragrant rice ranged from 18,000 – 22,000 VND/kg. In the Mekong Delta region, raw and processed rice prices saw only minor changes, with IR 504 rice increasing by 50 VND/kg to 7,700 – 7,800 VND/kg.
On the export market, Vietnamese rice prices remained unchanged. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 5% broken rice was priced at $413/ton, 25% broken rice at $387/ton, and 100% broken rice at $330/ton.
According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, in December of 2024, Vietnam's rice exports decreased by 17.3% in volume, 18% in value compared to November of 2024 and the price decreased by 0.9% to 583,036 tonnes, valued at 363.96 million USD, with an average price of 624.3 USD/tonne. In December of 2024, Vietnam exported the most rice to the Philippines market, reaching 217,909 tonnes, valued at 137.79 million USD, priced at 632.3 USD/tonne, down by 41% in volume, down by 41.7% in turnover and down slightly by 0.9% in price compared to November of 2024. It was followed by the Indonesian market with 127,027 tonnes, equivalent to 67.4 million USD, priced at 530.6 USD/tonne, up sharply by 191.5% in volume, up by 180.8% in turnover but down by 3.7% in price compared to November of 2024.
The next was Ghana with 39,495 tonnes, equivalent to 28.15 million USD, priced at 712.7 USD/tonne, down by 21% in volume, down by 18.9% in turnover but up by 2.7% in price. In the whole year of 2024, the country's rice export reached over 9.03 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 5.67 billion USD, with an average price of 627.2 USD/tonne, up by 11% in volume, up by 21.2% in turnover and up by 9.1% in price compared to 2023.
The Philippines was leading, accounting for 47.6% of the total volume and 47.1% of the total rice export turnover of the country, reaching over 4.22 million tonnes, equivalent to over 2.61 billion USD, with a price of 618.4 USD/tonne, up by 34.7% in volume, up by 48.9% in turnover and up by 10.6% in price compared to 2023.
Indonesia ranked second, reaching 1.26 million tonnes, equivalent to 746.31 million USD, price of 593.6 USD/tonne, accounting for 13.9% of the total volume and 13.2% of the total rice export turnover of the country, up by 7.9% in volume, up by 16.6% in turnover and up by 8% in price compared to 2023.
Malaysia ranked third with 719,241 tonnes, valued at 426.08 million USD, average price of 592.4 USD/tonne, accounting for 8% of the total volume and 7.5% in total turnover, up sharply by 81.4% in volume, up by 107.8% in turnover and up by 14.6% in price compared to 2023.
