DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices surged sharply on February 4, 2025

Prices in the Southeastern provinces rose by 2,000 VND/kg, while the Central Highlands saw increases of 1,500 to 1,800 VND/kg. Đắk Lắk and Đắk Nông have officially reached 150,000 VND/kg.

According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), the latest closing prices were:
Indonesia (Lampung Black Pepper): $7,219/ton (+1.07%)
Brazil (ASTA 570 Black Pepper): $6,150/ton
Malaysia (Kuching Black Pepper, ASTA): $9,000/ton
Indonesia (Muntok White Pepper): $9,694/ton (+0.55%)
Malaysia (White Pepper, ASTA): $11,600/ton
Vietnam:
Black Pepper (500 g/l): $6,350/ton
Black Pepper (550 g/l): $6,650/ton
White Pepper: $9,550/ton
The IPC reports that the market showed positive momentum at the end of January, with no price declines recorded in any producing countries.
India: Both domestic and export prices have been rising since last week.
Indonesia: Black pepper prices remain stable, while white pepper prices have risen for two consecutive weeks.
Malaysia: Domestic prices increased, while export prices remained unchanged.
Sri Lanka: Domestic prices have been increasing for the past three weeks.
Brazil & Cambodia: Black pepper prices remained stable last week.
China: Market was inactive due to Lunar New Year celebrations.
The strong domestic and international demand, along with limited supply, has driven up pepper prices. The Vietnamese market is benefiting from higher export prices and strong buying interest, keeping pepper prices at multi-year highs.
Vietnam’s pepper export volume in 2024 reached 250,600 tons, down 5.1% from 2023. However, export revenue surged by 45.4%, hitting nearly $1.4 billion due to higher prices.
Black pepper exports: 220,269 tons, valued at $1.12 billion
White pepper exports: 30,331 tons, valued at $200.6 million
Average export prices:
Black pepper: $5,154/ton (+49.7% YoY)
White pepper: $6,884/ton (+38.9% YoY)
