7.7 billion USD for importing raw materials for animal feed
Friday, January 17,2025AsemconnectVietnam - It is estimated that in 2024, Vietnam import nearly 22.4 million tonnes of raw materials for animal feed, equivalent to 7.7 billion USD.
According to estimates from General Statistics Office and a report compiled by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, by the end of December 2024, output of all kinds of fresh meat is estimated at 8.26 million tonnes, up 5.4% compared to 2023; of which, fresh pork is 5.16 million tonnes, up 6.6%; fresh poultry is 2.43 million tonnes, up 5.4. Fresh milk output is 1.23 million tonnes, up 6.0%; 20.2 billion eggs, up 5.0%.
Industrial animal feed output in 2024 is estimated at 21.5 million tonnes (up 3.4% compared to 2023), of which pig feed accounts for 55.3% (11.9 million tonnes), poultry feed accounts for 40.9% (8.8 million tonnes), the remaining 3.7% is feed for other animals. Total export turnover reached 533.6 million USD, up 6.5% over the same period in 2023 (of which 122.9 million USD was milk and dairy products, 172.1 million USD was meat, meat by-products and edible by-products after animal slaughter). In 2024, Vietnam exported about 1,700 live pigs (equivalent to 662,000 USD), down 78%; 1,200 live cows, down 18% compared to the same period in 2023. In addition, Vietnam exported 1.05 billion USD of animal feed and raw materials (inputs for livestock production), down 12.1% compared to 2023.
On other hand, total import turnover of the livestock sector was 3.741 billion USD, up 7.7% compared to the same period in 2023; of which, nearly 1.14 billion USD was milk and dairy products, 1.718 billion USD was meat, meat by-products and edible by-products after animal slaughter. Vietnam imported 185,400 buffaloes and cows (up 45% compared to the same period in 2023), of which 96% were beef buffaloes and cows.
