Vietnam's textile and garment exports to the EU increased by 10.5% in the first 10 months of 2024
Thursday, December 26,2024AsemconnectVietnam - In 2024, textile exports to the EU have steadily increased month by month compared to the same period last year. According to calculations from Vietnam's customs statistics, Vietnam's textile exports to the EU in the first 10 months of 2024 grew by 10.61% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching over 3.5 billion USD.
Vietnam's total textile exports to global markets in the first 10 months of 2024 amounted to over 30.57 billion USD, a 10.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023, with exports to the EU accounting for 11.46% of the total export turnover. Vietnam has risen to the 6th position in the list of the largest textile exporters to the EU, after China, Bangladesh, Turkey, India, and Pakistan.
The EU is the largest textile import market in the world. As the EU economy begins to recover and purchasing power improves, it has boosted imports, including textiles from Vietnam. Vietnam's textile exports to the EU have gained advantages over many other exporting countries thanks to the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which is now in its 5th year of implementation.
Under the commitments in the EVFTA, 100% of Vietnam's textile products will enjoy 0% import-export tariffs within a maximum of 7 years from the date the Agreement takes effect, providing a significant impetus for expanding market share in the EU. According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Belgium and the EU, since the EVFTA came into effect, Vietnam's share of total textile imports to the EU from outside the bloc has increased from 3.3% (in 2020) to 4.3% (in 2023).
