Vietnam's seafood exports to the EU up 14.6% in the first 10 months of this year

According to data from the General Department of Customs of Vietnam, in the first 10 months of 2024, Vietnam's seafood export turnover to the EU reached 907.9 million USD, an increase of 14.6% compared to the same period in 2023, and matching the total export turnover for the entire year of 2020.
Thus, Vietnam's seafood exports to the EU accounted for 11% of the country's total seafood export turnover. It is estimated that by the end of 2024, the figure will exceed 1 billion USD, marking a 19% increase compared to both 2023 and 2020.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs of Vietnam, in the first 10 months of 2024, Germany remains the largest seafood import market for Vietnam in the EU, with a value of 167.03 million USD, an increase of 6.9% compared to the same period in 2023, accounting for 18.4% of Vietnam's total seafood export turnover to the EU.
In second place is the Netherlands, with seafood export value reaching 166.6 million USD, an increase of 14.7% compared to the same period in 2023, making up 18.3% of Vietnam's total seafood export turnover to the EU.
Third is Belgium, with an export value of 118.8 million USD, up by 16.1% compared to the same period in 2023, accounting for 13% of the total seafood export turnover from Vietnam to the EU.
Next is Italy, with an export value of 78.4 million USD, a growth of 10.6% compared to the same period in 2023, representing 9% of the total seafood export turnover from Vietnam to the EU.

Notably, in addition to the three largest export markets for seafood to the EU, which all showed good growth, there are also several markets that experienced significant export growth in the first 10 months of 2024, such as: Ireland up 38.8%; Romania up 37.7%; Lithuania up 33.7%; Portugal up 26.6% compared to the same period in 2023.
Some markets saw a decline in export turnover in the first 10 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year: exports to France fell by 14.8%; exports to Finland dropped by 72.2%; exports to Poland decreased by 6.4%; exports to Latvia were down by 10.5%; and some smaller markets like the Czech Republic, Malta, and Croatia saw decreases of 16.1%, 39.3%, and 82.3%, respectively.
Export Products
According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the leading category of seafood exported by Vietnam to the EU in the first 10 months of 2024 is frozen shrimp, with a turnover of 224.5 million USD, an increase of 9.1% compared to the same period in 2023, accounting for 25% of the total seafood export value.
The second category is frozen catfish, with a turnover of 136.7 million USD in the first 10 months of 2024, up 1.4% compared to the same period in 2023, making up 15% of Vietnam’s total seafood export value. This product group includes key items such as fresh tuna, tra fish, basa fish, and various types of frozen fish. Among fish products, Vietnamese fillet fish holds a significant share. Fillet fish exports from Vietnam also account for a relatively high proportion of the EU's total fish import volume.
The third largest category of Vietnamese seafood exports to the EU is processed shrimp, with an export turnover of 126.8 million USD in the first 10 months of 2024, an increase of 35% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 14% of the total seafood export value.
