Soc Trang: Export of goods reaches over 1.3 billion USD
Thursday, November 7,2024AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 9 months of the year, export value of Soc Trang province is estimated at 1,345 million USD, up nearly 20% over the same period last year.
According to the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, the province's export value in the first 9 months is estimated at 1,345 million USD, up 19.98% over the same period. Of which, seafood exports reached 750 million USD, up 10.72%; rice exports reached 510 million USD, up 51.63%; garment exports reached 83 million USD, down 19%.
This is result of Soc Trang province focusing on investing and developing two key agricultural strengths: seafood and rice.
Specifically, Soc Trang province continues to implement rice production models in direction of safety, improving quality and value; improving mechanization in production, such as: Land preparation reaching 100%; sowing and fertilizing area by spraying seeds over 22%; using drones reaching over 24% of the planting area; irrigation pumps reaching 100%; harvesting by combine harvesters reaching over 98% of the harvested area.
In particular, launching ceremony of the Project "Sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" was held and pilot model "Rice cultivation with reduced emissions, straw, water and fertilizer management" was deployed in Soc Trang province. In the first 9 months of the year, the whole province planted 337,874 hectares of rice, an increase of 2.27% over the same period; 332,736 hectares were harvested (reaching 98.47% of total rice area planted) with an output of 2.15 million tonnes, an increase of 5.08%. Of which, output of high-quality specialty rice accounted for 94.53% and output of specialty and aromatic rice of all kinds accounted for 51.52% of total rice output. In aquaculture, Soc Trang province continues to implement solutions to develop brackish water shrimp farming; develop sustainable aquaculture. On occasion of 65th anniversary of traditional aquaculture sector, the province organized release of over 2 million giant tiger prawn fry into the natural environment to regenerate aquatic resources, worth about 300 million VND.
In addition, many effective shrimp farming models have been replicated, such as: 2-phase shrimp farming, tiger prawn farming with tarpaulin lining and siphon pits to treat waste, closed-loop shrimp farming, applying high technology (area of shrimp farming with tarpaulin lining reached 4,872 ha). Total area of aquaculture was 68,231 ha, an increase of 1.16% over the same period (mainly due to increase in area of fish farming of all kinds).
Of which, brackish water shrimp was 47,003 ha, down 1.32%; fish and other aquatic products were 21,228 ha, up 7.10%. Rate of damaged brackish water shrimp farming area was 5.10% (the same period last year was 4.10%). Total aquatic product output was 289,575 tonnes, up 1.58% over the same period; of which, aquaculture output was 237,652 tonnes (up 1.50%), exploitation output was 51,923 tonnes (up 1.94%).
In addition to exports, other sectors of Soc Trang province also recorded significant growth. Specifically, industrial production index in the first 9 months is estimated to increase by 10.07% over the same period as the province's main industrial products all grew from 1.77% -32% over the same period.
Total retail sales of goods and social consumer service revenue in 9 months is estimated at VND 77,256 billion, up 17.66% over the same period in 2023. Of which, total retail sales of goods are estimated at VND 48,524 billion, up 15.61%.
Tourism service industry has many improvements, attracting tourists to visit and revenue continues to grow. In 9 months, total number of tourists to the province is estimated at 2,449,963 person, up 13% over the same period; total revenue from tourism is estimated at VND 1,323,148 million, up 20%.
Transportation service industry operates stably and continues to grow, ensuring that passenger transport and goods circulation are maintained, continuous and stable. In 9 months, passenger transport output reached 24.4 million passengers, up 16.88% over the same period in 2023; Cargo transport output reached 44.92 million tonnes, up 9.44%.
