This is the second consecutive day of increase in the domestic market after a series of decreases in mid-October 2024.

At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at 6,739 USD/ton, up 0.18%; the price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 6,400 USD/ton; the price of Kuching black pepper (Malaysia) ASTA at 8,500 USD/ton, down 200 USD/ton.

The price of Muntok white pepper was 9,226 USD/ton, up 0.17%; the price of Malaysian white pepper ASTA was 11,000 USD/ton, down 200 USD/ton.

The price of Vietnamese black pepper was traded at 6,500 USD/ton for the 500 g/l type; 550 g/l at 6,800 USD/ton; white pepper price at 9,500 USD/ton. IPC adjusted the price of Indonesian pepper up again, while it decreased in Malaysia.

Domestically, according to VNA, at present, pepper gardens in Ba Ria - Vung Tau are in the fruit-growing stage to prepare for next year's harvest.

However, previously, due to the impact of unfavorable weather, pepper flowers fell off, so the fruit set rate was low, with a high risk of crop failure. Many farmers are worried because the current pepper price is high, around 150,000 VND/kg, so profits will decrease sharply.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the pepper growing area is currently around 10,500 hectares. Although pepper prices have started to increase again since the 2023 crop year, farmers have focused on investing in and caring for pepper plants, but due to the impact of the weather, it is forecasted that this year's pepper crop will produce a sharp decrease compared to last year. The local agricultural sector recommends that people focus on caring for healthy, suitable pepper gardens to stabilize production. Areas of pepper infected with disease and dead should not be replanted, but should be switched to growing other suitable crops.

In general, the market is sparsely traded, in the context of cash flow shifting to coffee. This year, coffee prices are high, so traders of this item need more capital, leading to some selling pepper to get money to do business. Most of those who have kept pepper until now want to wait for prices to increase further before selling.

Looking at the prospect of increase, purchasing power from China and the year-end festival season are expectations for the market. In addition, the forecast of Vietnam's harvest next year being delayed by 1 month also causes doubts for the market.

Recently, the world market has been supplemented with a large amount from Indonesia's harvest, China has taken the opportunity to buy a lot from this source. However, after Indonesia's harvest, the supply until February next year has not been significantly supplemented. This is a great advantage for Vietnamese pepper before entering next year's harvest.

Brazil is currently the second largest producer and exporter of black pepper in the world after Vietnam, accounting for 17 - 18% of global supply. However, the country's pepper exports are facing the risk of falling for the third consecutive year due to crop failure.
