Imports of raw materials for animal feed production in September and 9 months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - According to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, corn imports of all kinds in the first 9 months of 2024 reached over 8.08 million tonnes, worth of over 1.98 billion USD.

Meanwhile, wheat imports reached 4.55 million tonnes, worth of over 1.25 billion USD.
Soybean imports of all kinds in the first 9 months of 2024 reached over 1.59 million tonnes, worth of nearly 825.81 million USD.
Vietnam's corn imports in September and the first 9 months of 2024
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, corn imports in the first 9 months of 2024 reached over 8.08 million tonnes, worth of over 1.98 billion USD, with an average price of 245.4 USD/tonne, up by 24.3% in volume, but down by 2.3% in turnover and down by 21.4% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2023.
In particular, the figure of September of 2024 alone reached 1.15 million tonnes, equivalent to 268.43 million USD, with an average price of 232.9 USD/tonne, down by 3.1% in volume, down by 5.6% in turnover and down by 2.6% in price compared to August of 2024. Compared to September of 2023, it increased by 0.05% in volume, but decreased by 14.9% in turnover and 15% in price.
Vietnam's main corn import markets in the first 9 months of 2024
Argentina was the largest market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first 9 months of 2024, accounting for 57% of the total volume and 56% of the total corn import turnover of the country, reaching nearly 4.61 million tonnes, equivalent to over 1.11 billion USD, priced at 240.9 USD/tonne, up by 89.4% in volume, up by 48.3% in turnover but down by 21.7% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2023.
The second largest market was Brazil. In the first 9 months of 2024, Vietnam’s imports of corn from Brazil reached over 2.35 million tonnes, equivalent to 584.73 million USD, priced at 248.7 USD/tonne, accounting for over 29% of the total volume and total corn import turnover of the country, up by 2.8% in volume, but down by 18.5% in value The volume and price decreased by 20.8% compared to the first 9 months of 2023.
The next was the Lao market with 74,664 tonnes, equivalent to 18.66 million USD, priced at 250 USD/tonne, accounting for nearly 1% of the total volume and total corn import turnover of the country, up by 22.4% in volume, but down by 13% in volume and price down by 29% compared to the same period last year.
Vietnam's wheat imports in September and 9 months of 2024
In the first 9 months of 2024, the country's wheat import volume reached over 4.55 million tonnes, equivalent to over 1.25 billion USD, up by 37.9% in volume, up by 8.6% in turnover over the same period of 2023.
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in September of 2024, the country imported 843,823 tonnes of wheat, equivalent to 226.43 million USD, with an average price of 268.3 USD/tonne, up sharply by 212.9% in volume, up by 209% in turnover compared to August of 2024 but the price decreased slightly by 1.2%. Compared to September of 2023, it also increased by 274.4% in volume, increased by 227.3% in turnover but decreased by 12.6% in price.
Vietnam's main wheat import markets in the first 9 months of 2024
In general, in the first 9 months of 2024, the country's imported wheat volume reached over 4.55 million tonnes, equivalent to over 1.25 billion USD, up by 37.9% in volume, up by 8.6% in turnover compared to the first 9 months of 2023, the average price reached 275.5 USD/tonne, down by 21.2%.
In September of 2024, wheat imports from the main market Brazil in the first 9 months of 2024 accounted for 25.8% of the total volume and 23.4% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, reaching over 1.17 million tonnes, equivalent to 293.14 million USD, the average price was 249.6 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 348.9% in volume, an increase of 205.9% in turnover but a decrease of 31.9% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2023. In September of 2024, wheat was not imported from this market. Following the main market Brazil was the Ukrainian market, accounting for 24.7% of the total volume and 23% of the total turnover, reaching 1.13 million tonnes, equivalent to over 287.87 million USD, with an average price of 255.7 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 1,266% in volume, an increase of 1,132% in turnover but a decrease of 9.8% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2023.
The next was the Australian market, reaching 898,241 tonnes, equivalent to 276.68 million USD, with a price of 308 USD/tonne, accounting for 19.7% of the total volume and 22% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, a sharp decrease of 63% in volume, a decrease of 66.8% in turnover and a decrease of 10.2% in price.
Wheat imports from the US market reached 378,254 tonnes, equivalent to 121.04 million USD, priced at 320 USD/tonne, up by 43.9% in volume, up by 17% in turnover but down by 18.7% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2023.

According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, soybean imports in the first 9 months of 2024 reached over 1.59 million tonnes, worth of nearly 825.81 million USD, with an average price of 518 USD/tonne, up by 8.3% in volume, down by 11.7% in turnover and down by 18.4% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2023.
In September of 2024 alone, the country’s imports of soybean reached 148,004 tonnes, equivalent to 71.8 million USD, the average price was 485.1 USD/tonne, up by 12% in volume and 8.4% in value compared to August of 2024, the price slightly decreased by 3.3%. Compared to September of 2023, it increased sharply by 52.6% in volume, decreased by 23.3% in value but decreased by 19.2% in price.
Vietnam's main soybean import markets in the first 9 months of 2024
Brazil was the largest market supplying soybeans to Vietnam in the first 9 months of 2024, accounting for 59% of the total volume and 56.9% of the total soybean import turnover of the country, reaching 940,359 tonnes, equivalent to nearly 469.81 million USD, priced at 499.6 USD/tonne, up by 17.2% in volume, but down by 1.6% in turnover and down by 16% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2023. The second largest market was the US. In the first 9 months of 2024, the country’s imports of soybean from the U.S reached 514,984 tonnes, equivalent to 275.58 million USD, priced at 535 USD/tonne, accounting for 32.3% of the total volume and 33.4% of the total soybean import turnover of the country, down by 1.2% in volume, down by 22.6% in turnover and down by 21.6% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2023. The next was the Canadian market. In the first 9 months of 2024, the country’s imports of soybean from Canada reached 97,710 tonnes, equivalent to 58.12 million USD, price was 594.8 USD/tonne, accounting for 6.1% of the total volume and 7% of the total soybean import turnover of the country, up by 21.1% in volume, but down by 3.1% in turnover and price down by 20% compared to the same period last year.
