Tea exports to China increased by 3 digits in August
Friday, October 4,2024AsemconnectVietnam - Tea exports to China increased sharply in the first 8 months of 2024, reaching more than 9,000 tonnes, worth 13.16 million USD, up 230% in volume and 107% in value.
According to statistics from General Department of Customs, in the first 8 months of 2024, the country exported 92,800 tonnes of tea of all kinds, equivalent to 162.62 million USD, with an average price of 1,752.4 USD/ton, up 30.9% in volume, 33.4% in turnover and 2% in price compared to the first 8 months of 2023.
In August 2024 alone, 15,567 tonnes of tea were exported, reaching 29.33 million USD, with a price of 1,884 USD/tonne, up 1.5% in volume, 6.8% in turnover and 5.2% in price compared to July 2024; but compared to August 2023, it also increased by 27.8% in volume, 33.5% in turnover and 4.4% in price.
Vietnam's tea exports to Pakistan account for the largest share, accounting for 31.9% of total volume and 38.3% of total tea export turnover of the country, reaching 29,570 tonnes, equivalent to 62.3 million USD, with an average price of 2,107 USD/tonne, up 1.8% in volume, 11.3% in turnover and 9.4% in price compared to the first 8 months of 2023. In August 2024 alone, tea exports to this market reached 7,226 tonnes, equivalent to 15.38 million USD, with an average price of 2,128 USD/tonne, up 14.8% in volume, 15% in turnover and 0.3% in price compared to July 2024.
Taiwan (China) ranked second, accounting for over 10% of total volume and total export turnover of tea in the country, reaching 9,769 tonnes, equivalent to 16.77 million USD, with an average price of 1,717 USD/tonne, up 2.9% in volume, 7% in turnover and 4% in price.
Next is Chinese market, accounting for 9.7% of total volume and 8.1% in total turnover, reaching 9,022 tonnes, equivalent to 13.16 million USD, with an average price of 1,458 USD/tonne, up 230% in volume, up 107% in turnover but the price decreased by 37.3%.
Next is the US market, accounting for 5.8% of total volume and 4.9% of total turnover, reaching 5,415 tonnes, equivalent to 7.95 million USD, up 51.3% in volume and 70.48% in turnover.
In general, tea exports to most markets in the first 8 months of this year increased in turnover compared to the same period in 2023.
Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that demand for tea imports in major markets around the world is showing signs of recovery, which is a positive signal for the Vietnamese tea industry to boost exports.
To expand market share, the Vietnamese tea industry needs to focus on improving quality, diversifying products; promoting production of high-quality tea, organic tea, safe tea, focusing on modern processing and packaging processes, meeting international standards. At the same time, promote Vietnamese tea brand to the international market, participate in prestigious tea fairs and exhibitions to introduce products and connect with potential partners.
