Exports of goods to Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar in 8 months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the first 8 months of 2024, Vietnam's exports to Laos and Cambodia increased, while exports to Myanmar decreased.

Vietnam's exports to Cambodia in August and the first 8 months of 2024
In recent years, economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has achieved very meaningful achievements. Accordingly, Vietnam is one of Cambodia's leading trade partners.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, in August of 2024, the export turnover to Cambodia reached 465 million USD, an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous month, and in the first 8 months of 2024, the total export turnover reached 3.5 billion USD, an increase of 3.9% over the same period last year.
Textiles and garments were the leading group of products in terms of export turnover to Cambodia. In August of 2024, the export turnover of this group of goods reached 94.8 million USD, an increase of 24.2% compared to the previous month, and in the first 8 months of the year it reached 590.7 million USD, accounting for 2.4% of the proportion.
The next was the export of iron and steel of all kinds. In August of 2024 it reached 64 million USD, in the first 8 months of 2024 it reached 491.2 million USD, accounting for 7.5% of the proportion.
Commodities with export turnover growth in the first 8 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year included plastic products increased by 50.5%; wood and wood products increased by 64.7%; rubber products increased by 102.1%; coffee increased by 74.7%.
In 2023, the export turnover reached 4.8 billion USD, down by 15.9% compared to the same period last year. Commodities with export turnover growth in 2023 compared to the same period last year included wood and wood products increased by 76.1%; glass and glass products increased by 15.8%.
Vietnam's exports to Laos in August and the first 8 months of 2024
According to the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's export turnover to Laos in August 2024 reached 74.2 million USD, an increase of 12% over the previous month. In the first 8 months of 2024, it reached 429.5 million USD, an increase of 20.6%.
The commodity with the largest export turnover to the Lao market in the first 8 months of 2024 was chemical products reaching 47.7 million USD, accounting for 11% of the export proportion; followed by petroleum products of all kinds reaching 45.7 million USD, accounting for 10.6% of the proportion.
In addition, Vietnam also exported other items to the Lao market, such as machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; plastic products; fruits and vegetables; confectionery and cereal products; paper and paper products; fertilizers; ceramics.
In general, most groups of items exported to Laos have increased export turnover compared to the previous month. In order to take advantage of and promote development opportunities, overcome difficulties and challenges, especially the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnamese enterprises need to be proactive to exploit all export advantages to Laos, increase export scale.
Vietnam's goods exports to Myanmar in August and the first 8 months of 2024
According to the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's goods export turnover to the Myanmar market in August of 2024 reached 19.6 million USD, down 30.7% compared to the previous month. In the first 8 months of 2024, Vietnam exported the following items to Myanmar: Means of transport and spare parts; textile and footwear raw materials and accessories; plastic products; textiles and garments; electric wires and cables; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; telephones of all kinds and components; chemicals; coffee... in which the leading export turnover was the group of items: Raw materials and accessories, textiles and footwear reached 29.4 million USD, an increase of more than 20% over the same period last year, accounting for 14.9% of the export proportion; followed by textiles and garments reaching 21.9 million USD, down by 22.3%, accounting for 11.1%.
Some items achieved growth in export turnover in the first 8 months of 2024, including Iron and steel products increased by 30.7%; fertilizers of all kinds increased by 25.1%. The rest of the export items decreased compared to the same period last year.
Myanmar is a potential market for goods and services from Vietnam such as iron and steel and iron and steel products, electrical products and equipment, motorbikes and bicycles, food and food processing materials, electronics and household appliances, construction, information technology, telecommunications, etc.
Seizing opportunities through trade promotion events, many Vietnamese enterprises have established distribution networks and consumed products in the Myanmar market.
