Vietnam - Italy trade exchange in August and first 8 months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - Bilateral trade between Italy and Vietnam has benefited from the positive impact of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). This trade agreement has brought many opportunities to increase the presence of Vietnamese products in the Italian market.

According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first 8 months of 2024, the two-way trade exchange between Italy and Vietnam reached nearly 4.6 billion USD.
Of which, Italy's export of goods to Vietnam reached 1.25 billion USD, an increase of 13.9% over the same period in 2023 and Italy's import of goods from Vietnam reached 3.34 billion USD, an increase of 8.9% over the same period in 2023.
In the first 8 months of 2024, Vietnam achieved a surplus of nearly 2.1 billion USD in trade exchange with the Italian market.
Italy's exports to Vietnam in August and the first 8 months of 2024
According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first 8 months of 2024, Italy's export of goods to Vietnam reached 1.25 billion USD, an increase of 13.9% over the same period of 2023. In August of 2024 alone, Italy's export of goods to Vietnam reached nearly 173 million USD, down by 11.8% compared to July but up by 22.8% over the same period of 2023.
Italy's main export items to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2024
Machinery, equipment, tools, and other spare parts topped the list of Italy's main export groups to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2024 with a turnover of 297.4 million USD, accounting for 24% of Italy's total export value to Vietnam and a slight decrease 3.2% compared to the same period of 2023.
In August of 2024, the exports of machinery, equipment, tools, and other spare parts from Italy to Vietnam reached nearly 40.8 million USD, down by 12.5% compared to July but up by 19.7% compared to the same period of 2023.
Ranking second in the list of key Italian commodity groups exported to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2024 were pharmaceuticals of all kinds with a value of 189.3 million USD, accounting for 15% of the total value of Italian goods exported to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2024 and increasing by more than 43% compared to the same period last year.
The next was the group of textile, garment, leather and footwear raw materials with a total export value of 147.3 million USD, accounting for 12% of Italy's total export turnover to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2024 and an increase of 20.2% over the same period of 2023.
The next groups were fabrics of all kinds and chemical products with export values in the first 8 months of the year reaching 93.7 million USD and 57.7 million USD, respectively, an increase of 14.5% and 36.1% over the same period of 2023.
Italy's imports of goods from Vietnam in August and the first 8 months of 2024
According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first 8 months of 2024, Italy's total import turnover of goods from Vietnam reached 3.34 billion USD, an increase of 8.9% over the same period in 2023.
In particular, In August 2024, Italy's imports of goods from Vietnam reached 381 million USD, down by 7.9% compared to July of 2024 but up by 18.5% compared to August of 2023.
Main items imported from Vietnam by Italy in the first 8 months of 2024
Iron and steel of all kinds topped the list of main groups of goods imported by Vietnam from Italy in the first 8 months of 2024 with a turnover of nearly 635 million USD, accounting for 19% of the total import value of Italian goods from Vietnam and down by 24.7% compared to the same period of 2023.
In August of 2024, Italy's imports of iron and steel of all kinds from Vietnam reached a turnover of 57 million USD, up by 17.7% compared to July of 2024 and down sharply by 31.3% compared to August of 2023.
Telephones and components ranked second in the list of key commodity groups imported from Vietnam by Italy in the first 8 months of 2024 with a turnover value of 366.7 million USD, accounting for 11% of the total value of goods imported from Vietnam by Italy in the first 8 months of 2024 and a slight increase of 3.83% over the same period last year.
Ranked third was the group of computers, electronic products and components with a turnover value in the first 8 months of 2024 reaching 349.2 million USD, a sharp increase of 145.6% over the same period of 2023.
In the first 8 months of 2024, Italy's coffee imports from Vietnam reached 331 million USD, an increase of 31.3% over the same period of 2023.
