Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports reached 40.08 billion USD in 8 months
Sunday, September 22,2024AsemconnectVietnam - According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports in August of 2024 reached 5.55 billion USD, up by 12.3% compared to August of 2023.
In the first 8 months of this year, the total export turnover reached 40.08 billion USD, up by 18.6%.
Specifically, in August of 2024, the main agricultural product exports reached 2.99 billion USD, up by 22.6%; forestry products reached 1.45 billion USD, up by 4.7% over the same period last year; aquatic products reached 900 million USD, up by 5% over the same period last year. The fruit and vegetable industry continued to grow impressively with export turnover in August of 2024, reaching 750 million USD, up by 29% compared to the previous month and up by 52.8% compared to the same period of 2023.
Livestock exports alone reached 46.5 million USD, down by 4.8% compared to the same period last year and production inputs reached 161 million USD, down by 23% compared to the same period last year.
In the first 8 months of 2024, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 40.08 billion USD, up by 18.6% over the same period last year. Of which, agricultural exports reached 21.32 billion USD, up by 24%; forestry products reached 10.97 billion USD, up by 19.7%; aquatic products reached 6.23 billion USD, up by 7.6%; livestock reached 324 million USD, up by 0.3%. Production input alone reached 1.23 billion USD, down by 6.8%.
Notably, the export turnover of key commodities was higher than the same period in 2023, such as wood and wood products reached 10.24 billion USD, up by 20.6% over the same period last year; vegetables and fruits reached 4.63 billion USD, up by 30.6% over the same period last year. Vietnam exported 1.05 million tonnes of coffee with a turnover of 4.03 billion USD, down by 11.9% in volume but up by 36.1% in value. In the aquatic products group, shrimp exports brought in 2.41 billion USD, up by 9.5% over the same period last year; tra fish exports reached 1.2 billion USD, up by 8.2% over the same period last year.
In terms of markets, the US, China and Japan continued to be the 3 largest export markets for Vietnamese agricultural products. Of which, the US accounted for 21.4%, up by 23.5% over the same period last year; China accounted for 20.4%, up by 10.2% over the same period last year and Japan accounted for 6.7%, up by 4.6% over the same period last year.
Assessing the export target of agricultural, forestry and fishery products this year, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien commented that with the results achieved in the first 8 months of the year, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports will achieve the Prime Minister's plan for the agricultural sector of 54 - 55 billion USD. This result lays the foundation for relatively stable growth of the entire agricultural sector in 2024.
Notably, recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Department of Customs of China officially signed 3 important Protocols, paving the way for the export of fresh coconut, frozen durian and crocodile to the Chinese market. This will help Vietnam increase the scale and total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to the Chinese market in the coming time.
