Expanding seafood market share in more than 170 countries and territories
Friday, August 30,2024AsemconnectVietnam - Ranking 3rd in the world in seafood exports, Vietnamese products are present on supermarket shelves around the world, including the most modern and prestigious supermarket systems in the world in the US, UK, Europe, Canada, Japan, China, etc.
That is the assessment of Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien about the potential of Vietnam's seafood exports at the opening ceremony of the International Seafood Exhibition (Vietfish) which opened on the morning of August 21, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, Vietnam has great potential to develop seafood, especially aquaculture, being the 3rd country in the world in seafood exports, accounting for over 7% of the world market share, only behind China and Norway. Seafood is considered one of the country's key industries, contributing significant value to our country's economy as well as global logistics services.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Sac, President of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam is currently ranked among the countries with high competitiveness and capacity in the seafood industry. In 2023, in the context of the world economy continuing to face many difficulties and challenges, Vietnam's seafood export turnover still reached approximately 9 billion USD.
This year's Vietfish attracted more than 280 exhibitors and 496 booths from Vietnam and 15 other countries. With abundant sources of goods, Vietnamese seafood enterprises introduced to international friends hundreds of key export products such as frozen seafood, fresh seafood, canned goods, dried foods, fish sauce, etc., along with supporting industries such as technology, equipment, clean energy, etc., creating a vivid picture of Vietnam's seafood industry.
“Vietfish 2024 is an ideal business destination for seafood enterprises, creating sustainable value connections while affirming the quality and position of Vietnamese seafood in the international market.” - Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Sac emphasized.
Introducing many value-added products of the enterprise at the exhibition, Ms. Truong Thi Le Khanh, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Vinh Hoan Joint Stock Company, said that in addition to traditional products, the company is currently focusing on deeply processed products for export. All major markets of this pangasius exporting enterprise recorded good recovery. In particular, revenue in the Chinese, American, and European markets increased by 259%, 59%, and 33% respectively compared to January of 2023.
“Thanks to deep processing products, in the first 5 months of 2024, Vinh Hoan's total revenue reached 5,033 billion VND, of which pangasius products reached VND 2,696 billion, accounting for 53%. Vinh Hoan’s exports to China reached 496 billion USD; to the US reached 1,506 billion VND, to Europe reached 927 billion VND.” - the business representative shared.
In addition to increasing exports, Vietnamese seafood enterprises have focused on investing in products to develop the domestic market. While the world market is increasingly difficult, the potential of the domestic market is still very large, to balance supply and demand and reduce dependence on export markets, seafood enterprises have gradually turned to developing the domestic market, bringing exported seafood products to Vietnamese consumers.
With the theme of Vietfish 2024 "Export seafood for Vietnamese people", this year's highlight is seafood businesses aspiring to bring export products around the world to the domestic market, contributing to the rapid growth of Vietnam's potential food industry. Vietfish hopes to be an effective promotional channel, contributing more nutritious and convenient food options to Vietnamese family meals, meeting the diverse culinary needs of the young generation of Vietnam who are increasingly approaching the changes in consumption in the world.
