In the export market, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice was at 440 USD/ton; 5% broken rice at 575 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 539 USD/ton.
Vietnam’s rice industry is experiencing a golden period, with exports projected to surpass 5 billion USD this year, fueled by robust global demand and stable prices, according to experts.
Between January and July, Vietnam shipped over 5.1 million tonnes of rice worth 3.2 billion USD aboard, up 25% in volume and 5.8% in value annually, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Vietnam Food Association said the average export price of Vietnamese rice reached a record high of 636 USD per tonne, surpassing major competitors like Thailand, Pakistan, and India.
Traditional markets such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and China continue to be major buyers, while Vietnam is boldly venturing into new markets, including the Middle East, Africa, South America, the Republic of Korea and Japan.
The superior quality of Vietnamese rice, exemplified by the ST25 variety being twice named "World's Best Rice", is a key competitive advantage.
The rice-shrimp cultivation area of Thoi Binh district in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has received Best Aquaculture Practices' (BAP) certification of the Global Aquaculture Alliance.
The certification, handed by BUREAU VERITAS in Vietnam, is the first presented to an aquatic farming establishment in the country.
Currently, the model has drawn 321 households in the commune with a total farming area of more than 696 hectares. In the coming time, it plans to expand the area to about 2,000 hectares.
Thoi Binh district boasts high potential for shrimp-rice cultivation models. The BAP will help the locality ensure sustainable farming for small-scale facilities, thus minimizing negative impacts on the environment, ensuring social benefits, and contributing to changing production habits and mindset of farmers and businesses.
This is a good condition and opportunity for Ca Mau to promote the image of local shrimp to the world market, especially in demanding markets with strict standards.
Insiders said that rice exports could bring in a record turnover of 5 billion USD this year if the pace of shipment is maintained like at present.
There is ample room for Vietnamese rice exports as demand in major rice importers such as the Philippines, Indonesia, China and Africa is huge.
Data of the Vietnam Customs showed that since the beginning of the year to mid-July, Vietnam shipped more than 4.8 million tonnes of rice, bringing home nearly 3.1 billion USD.
The average rice export price increased 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching 612 USD per tonnes.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that Vietnam’s unhusked rice output is expected to reach more than 43 million tonnes in 2024, which is enough to ensure domestic consumption and export demand of more than 8 million tonnes of husked rice.
