List of 4 agricultural products with a turnover of billions of USD in the first 7 months of this year
Monday, August 12,2024AsemconnectVietnam - According to the latest data from General Statistics Office, Vietnam has 4 agricultural products with a turnover of billions of USD with a total of 13.01 billion USD, accounting for 88% of export turnover.
According to the latest data from General Statistics Office, export of agricultural products in July 2024 reached 1.96 billion USD. In general, the main products in this group all increased in turnover compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, amount of pepper exported in July reached 28,000 tonnes, an increase of 83% over the same period last year. Thanks to the price increase, export turnover of pepper in the month also increased by 181% over the same period last year, to 160 million USD.
Cashew nuts also recorded an increase in both volume and turnover, up 27.7% year-on-year and 40.4% year-on-year, respectively, reaching 70,000 tonnes and 428 million USD. Cassava and cassava products increased 65% year-on-year in volume, reaching 240,000 tonnes exported in July 2024, with turnover also increasing 64%, reaching 118 million USD.
Volume of tea exported from Vietnam in the month also increased 52% year-on-year, reaching 16,000 tonnes. With a slight increase in price, the turnover of this item increased to 29 million USD, up 56% year-on-year.
In contrast to the increasing trend in tea and pepper volume, coffee and rice exports in the month decreased by 35% and 4% respectively compared to the same period last year, to 70,000 tonnes and 630,000 tonnes. However, thanks to high prices, turnover of these two items still grew, with an increase of 12% over the same period last year for coffee and an increase of 6% over the same period last year for rice, reaching 346 million USD and 386 million USD respectively.
Vegetables and fruits were the agricultural products with the largest turnover in July 2024 with 500 million USD, an increase of 23% over the same period last year.
Accumulated in the first 7 months of 2024, total export turnover of agricultural products reached 14.6 billion USD. Of which, Vietnam had 4 agricultural products with a turnover of billion USD with a total of 13.01 billion USD, accounting for 88% of the export turnover of this group.
Vegetables and fruits continued to be an item with the largest export turnover with 3.83 billion USD, up 24.3% over the same period last year. Coffee was an item with the second largest turnover with 3.53 billion USD, up 30.9% over the same period last year; rice with 3.27 billion USD, up 25.1% over the same period last year and cashew nuts with 2.37 billion USD, up 22.1% over the same period last year.
In addition to billion-dollar items, in this group, Vietnam earned 790 million USD from pepper exports, up 46.3% over the same period last year; cassava and cassava products with 748 million USD, up 12.5% over the same period last year and tea with 135 million USD, up 34.8% over the same period last year.
In terms of volume, coffee exports in the first 7 months of 2024 decreased by 13.8% over the same period last year, to 964,000 tonnes; cassava and cassava products decreased by 1.2% over the same period last year, reaching 1.62 million tonnes.
In contrast, cashew nut exports increased by 26.4% over the same period last year, to 424,000 tonnes; tea increased by 32.7% over the same period last year, reaching 78,000 tonnes; rice increased by 5.8% over the same period last year, reaching 5.17 million tons and pepper increased by 0.9% over the same period last year, reaching 169,000 tonnes.
