Vietnam - New Zealand trade exchange in first 6 months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the data from the Asia-Africa Market Department (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam is currently New Zealand's 14th largest trading partner; the 13th exporter to the New Zealand market and the 17th largest importer of New Zealand.

Meanwhile, New Zealand is Vietnam's 38th trading partner, Vietnam's 51st largest export market and 58th largest import market.
The total two-way turnover between Vietnam and New Zealand in the first 6 months of this year reached 618.04 million USD, down 10.65% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
Of which exports reached 329.4 million USD, up 4.9% over the same period last year, and imports reached over 329.43 million USD, up by 4.91% over the first 6 months of 2023.
Vietnam's goods exports to New Zealand in June and the first 6 months of 2024
According to the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to New Zealand in June of 2024 reached 52.4 million USD, an increase of 7.4% compared to the previous month. Totally in the first 6 months of the year, the country’s exports of goods to New Zealand reached 329.4 million USD, up by 4.9% over the same period last year.
Phones of all types and components led the export turnover in the first 6 months of 2024, reaching 105.5 million USD, an increase of 1.3%, accounting for 32% of the export proportion.
The next was the group of computers, electronic products and components with 31.1 million USD, an increase of 10.1%, accounting for 9.4%.
In the first 6 months of 2024, a number of products exported to the New Zealand market increased compared to the same period last year, including aquatic products increased by 27.1%; plastic products increased by 50.7%; textiles and garments increased by 33.5%.
Vietnam's imports of goods from New Zealand in the first 6 months of 2024
According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, goods from New Zealand imported into Vietnam reached nearly 288.61 million USD in the first 6 months of 2024, a sharp decrease of 23.58% compared to the same period of 2023.
In June of 2024 alone, the country’s imports of goods from New Zealand reached nearly 64.27 million USD, a slight increase of 0.9% compared to May of 2024 and an increase of 12.96% compared to June of 2023.
The total two-way turnover between Vietnam and New Zealand in the first 6 months of this year reached 618.04 million USD, down by 10.65% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
Vietnam's trade surplus to the New Zealand market in the first 6 months of 2024 reached 40.82 million USD, while in the first 6 months of 2023 Vietnam's trade deficit from the New Zealand market reached 63.65 million USD.
In 2023, the total two-way turnover between Vietnam and New Zealand reached nearly 1.33 billion USD, down by 5.9% compared to 2022. Of which, Vietnam’s exports of goods to New Zealand reached 648.88 million USD, down by 7.1% and the imports from this market reached 680.56 million USD, down by 4.8%. Thus, Vietnam's trade deficit from the New Zealand market in 2023 reached 31.68 million USD, an increase of 100.5%.
In the first 6 months of 2024, the group of milk and milk products imported from New Zealand reached the largest turnover of nearly 141.14 million USD, accounting for 48.9% of the total import turnover of all types of goods from this market, down by 40.07% compared to the first 6 months of 2023. In June of 2024 alone, the imports reached over 22.65 million USD, down by 20.2% compared to May of 2024 but up by 5.59% compared to June of 2023.
The group of imported fruits and vegetables from New Zealand ranked second in turnover, reaching 54.89 million USD, accounting for 19.02% of the total turnover, an increase of 0.38%.
The next was the group of wood and wood products reaching 21.85 million USD, accounting for 7.57% of the total turnover, an increase of 4.66%.
Notably, iron and steel scrap imports from New Zealand only reached 10.46 million USD, accounting for 3.62%, but increased very strongly by 298.05% over the same period of 2023.
