Exports of goods to China and South Korea in first 6 months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to the Chinese market in the first 6 months of this year reached more than 27.8 billion USD, up by 7.2% over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to the South Korean market in the first 6 months of this year reached 12.2 billion USD, up by 10.6% over the same period last year.

According to the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to the Chinese market in June of 2024 reached more than 5.14 billion USD, an increase of 5% compared to the previous month. Totally in the first 6 months of 2024, the figure reached more than 27.8 billion USD, up by 7.2% over the same period last year.

Leading the export turnover in the first 6 months of 2024 was the group of all types of phones and components reaching 6.11 billion USD, down by 3.4% over the same period last year, accounting for 22% of the proportion. The next was the group of computers, electronic products and components with more than 6 billion USD, down by 1.9% over the same period last year, accounting for 21.6% of export proportion; and then was the group of cameras, camcorders and components reaching 2.42 billion USD, an increase of 84.2%, accounting for 8.7% of the proportion.
The product groups with export turnover growing in the first 6 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year included vegetables and fruits increased by 22.4%; chemicals increased by 64%; cashew nuts increased by 40%; coffee increased by 45.1%; ores and other minerals increased by 223.4%.
In 2024, China is still identified as Vietnam's key agricultural, forestry and fishery export market, which is expected to achieve high growth. In addition to strong products such as vegetables, fruits and seafood, businesses are focusing on increasing market share of products with great potential such as rubber, pepper, and cassava.

According to the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to the South Korean market in June of 2024 reached 1.98 billion USD, an increase of 0.6% compared to the previous month. Totally in the first 6 months of this year, the country’s exports of goods to South Korea reached 12.2 billion USD, up by 10.6% over the same period last year.

The item with the largest export turnover in the first 6 months of 2024 was the group of computers, electronic products and components, reaching more than 2.57 billion USD, an increase of 15.9%, accounting for 21% of the proportion. The next was phones of all types and components with 1.76 billion USD, accounting for 14.4% of the proportion. The next was machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts, reaching 1.59 billion USD, accounting for 13% of the proportion.
Some groups of products exported to South Korea saw increase in export turnover in the first 6 months of 2024 included vehicles and spare parts increased by 32.3%; fruit and vegetable products increased by 54.5%; coffee increased by 39%; fertilizer increased by 122.7%; pepper increased by 134%; and plastic raw materials increased by 64.8%.
The potential for development of trade between Vietnam and South Korea is huge. The bilateral free trade agreement has been contributing to further promoting political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries, further tightening the strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and South Korea.
In addition to bilateral FTAs, Vietnamese businesses also have more options when having import-export trade activities with South Korea, thanks to the Regional Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (RCEP) that took effect early last year. Another FTA is the Asean-Korea Free Trade Agreement (AKFTA).
