According to statistics from General Department of Customs, by the end of June 2024, seafood exports earned 4.4 billion USD, a slight increase of 6.2% over the same period last year. Regarding products in seafood industry, by the end of May 2024, shrimp and pangasius accounted for a large proportion, up to 53% of total export turnover of the entire industry. Specifically, shrimp exports reached nearly 1.18 billion USD and pangasius reached 707.3 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, export value of shrimp and pangasius increased only slightly, by 8.1% and 3.6%, respectively.
Notably, in seafood export picture, caviar exports grew dramatically. Accordingly, in May, Vietnamese enterprises exported about 316 tonnes of caviar at a price of 16.7 USD/kg (equivalent to 417,000 VND/kg), earning 5.3 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, caviar exports increased by 831% in volume and increased dramatically by 6,110% in value.
The reason is that average export price of caviar increased by nearly 567% compared to the same period in 2023. Among product groups of seafood industry, average export price of caviar is ranked Top 1.
In the first 5 months of this year, Vietnam exported 1,336 tonnes of caviar, earning 22.2 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, caviar exports increased dramatically by 1,362% in volume and 8,395% in value, equivalent to an increase of nearly 84 times compared to the same period last year.
Last year, Vietnam exported nearly 4,000 tonnes of various types of caviar, with a turnover of 65.8 million USD, down 5.5% in volume but up slightly 3.7% in value compared to 2022.
