Vietnam's seafood exports and imports in first 6 months of 2024
Tuesday, July 23,2024AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, the first 6 months of 2024, Vietnam’s exports of seafood products reached over 4.41 billion USD, an increase of 6.4% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
Meanwhile, the import turnover of all kinds of seafood to Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2024 reached nearly 1.22 billion USD, down by 4.1% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
Seafood exports in June and the first 6 months of 2024
The preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs showed that, the exports of seafood products in June of 2024 increased by 1.5% compared to May of 2024 and increased by 9.4% compared to June of 2023, reaching over 840 .66 million USD. Overall, in the first 6 months of 2024, the country’s exports of this product group reached over 4.41 billion USD, up by 6.4% over the same period of 2023.
Vietnam's main seafood export markets in the first 6 months of 2024
The US market was leading the list of the country’s major seafood export markets in the first 6 months of 2024, accounting for 17.7% of the country's total export turnover of this product group, reaching nearly 782.35 million USD, an increase of 10.9% compared to the first 6 months of 2023. In June of 2024 alone, the country’s exports of seafood to the US reached 160.1 million USD, an increase of 10.2% compared to May of 2024 and an increase of 11.7% compared to June of 2023.
The Japanese market ranked second, accounting for 16%, reaching nearly 704.16 million USD, down by 1.2% over the same period last year. In June of 2024 alone, the country’s exports to this market reached 124.25 million USD, down by 3.9% compared to May of 2024 and down by 6% compared to June of 2023.
The next was the Chinese market. In June of 2024, the country’s exports to China increased by 4.6% compared to May of 2024 and increased 18.5% compared to June of 2023, reaching 144.51 million USD. Totally in the first 6 months of 2024, the country’s exports to this market increased by 7.5% compared to the first 6 months of 2023, reaching 681.8 million USD, accounting for 15.5% of the total export turnover of this product group of the whole country.
Seafood exports to the FTA RCEP market in the first 6 months of 2024 increased slightly by 0.1% compared to the first 6 months of 2023, reaching over 2.18 billion USD, accounting for 49.5% of the total turnover; the exports to the FTA CPTTP market increased by 2.1%, reaching over 1.14 billion USD, accounting for 25.9%; the exports to the EU market accounted for 11% of total turnover, reaching nearly 483.9 million USD, an increase of 15.8% and the exports to the Southeast Asian market accounted for 6.1% of total turnover, reaching over 270.11 million USD, down by 16.9%.

According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, the import turnover of all kinds of seafood to Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2024 reached nearly 1.22 billion USD, down by 4.1% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
In June of 2024 alone, the import turnover of this product group reached over 216.8 million USD, up 6.3% compared to May of 2024 but down by 1.5% compared to June of 2023.
Vietnam's main seafood import markets in the first 6 months of 2024
In the first 6 months of 2024, India, Norway, Indonesia, China and Japan were the main markets supplying seafood to Vietnam; in which the imports from Norway led in turnover, reaching nearly 154.25 million USD, accounting for 12.7% of the country's total import turnover of this product group, an increase of 13% compared to the first 6 months of the year 2023. In June of 2024 alone, the imports from this market reached nearly 31.23 million USD, up by 28.6% compared to May of 2024 and up by 52.3% compared to June of 2023.
Indonesian market ranked second. The imports from this market in June of 2024 decreased by 4.9% compared to May of 2024 but increased by 36.3% compared to June of 2023, reaching 18.73 million USD, bringing total import turnover in the first 6 months of 2024 to 132.49 million USD, accounting for 10.9%, an increase of 33.7% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
The next was the Indian market with 126.62 million USD in the first 6 months of 2024, accounting for 10.4%, down by 28.2%; China with 124.77 million USD, accounting for 10.2%, up by 16.8%; Japan with 96.26 million USD, accounting for 7.9%, an increase of 18.6%.
The imports from FTA RCEP markets reached 441.88 million USD, up by 10.5% over the same period of 2023; the imports from CPTTP markets reached 173.45 million USD, down by 9.8% and the imports from Southeast Asian markets reached 176.29 million USD, an increase of 11%.
