DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices fell by 100- 200 VND on July,18 2024
Thursday, July 18,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area fell by 100-200 VND to 127,000–127,600 VND per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.
Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND127,600/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND127,000. Robusta coffee decreased to127,000VND per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha; to 127,400-127,500VND per kg in Dak Lak; to 127,500-127,600VND per kg in Dak Nong; to 127,500VND per kg in Kon Tum, and to 127,400-127,500VND per kg in Gia Lai.
According to VITIC, drought affects the coffee harvest and the ongoing conflict in the Red Sea is pushing up world coffee prices, while also affecting coffee deliveries to Europe. New regulations on coffee production and deforestation make a cup of coffee more expensive. New deforestation regulations recently imposed by the EU could mean that thousands of tons of coffee exports to the EU could soon be rejected, as they were produced on recently deforested land.
In addition, the shortage of Arabica coffee due to climate change will also push up demand for Robusta coffee because roasters will need to diversify their products.
According to calculations, by the end of the first 9 months of the 2023/24 crop year (from October 2023 to June 2024), Vietnam has exported nearly 1.26 million tonnes of coffee, reaching about 86% of total output 1.47 million tonnes of the current crop year and a decrease of more than 11% compared to the same period of the previous crop year. If not counting inventory carried over from last year, Vietnam only has about 210,000 tonnes of coffee left to export in the next 4 months until the new harvest takes place.
