Trading activities are slow, supplies are scarce, and rice quality is poor due to rain. According to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the price of raw rice IR 504 summer-autumn priced at 10,650 - 10,750 VND/kg; IR 504 finished rice at 12,450 - 12,550 VND/kg. IR 504 sheet price is 8,700 - 8,900 VND/kg (down 100 VND/kg). Meanwhile, the price of dry bran increased by 50 VND/kg to 7,000 - 7,150 VND/kg.
At retail markets, rice prices have not been adjusted. Currently, Nang Nhen rice has the highest listed price of 20,000 VND/kg; Jasmine rice 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice 20,000 VND/kg; Regular rice usually fluctuated around 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg; long-grain fragrant rice 20,000 - 21,000 VND/kg; Huong jasmine rice 20,000 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice 21,000 VND/kg; Common white rice 17,000 VND/kg; Soc Trang rice 18,500 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice priced at 20,000 VND/kg; Japanese rice at 22,000 VND/kg. With rice products, it was noted that in localities, new rice transactions were slow due to buying, many places stopped buying, farmers offered stable prices, and rice prices did not fluctuate. Specifically, the price of IR 50404 rice fluctuated around 6,700 - 6,900 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 rice price is 7,100 - 7,200 VND/kg; OM 5451 rice price at 6,800 - 7,100 VND/kg; OM 18 rice costs 7,000 - 7,200 VND/kg; OM 380 rice ranges from 7,200 - 7,300 VND/kg. Japanese rice is 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa 9 rice at 7,600 - 7,700 VND/kg and Nang Nhen rice (dried) is priced at 20,000 VND/kg.
Accordingly, the sticky rice market recorded no adjustment compared to yesterday. 3-month sticky rice (dried) keeps the price from 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg. In addition, 9,000 - 9,200 VND/kg is the selling price applied to Long An sticky rice (dried). On the other hand, 3-month sticky rice (fresh) is stable compared to yesterday at 7,300 - 7,500 VND/kg, and Long An sticky rice (fresh) remained unchanged today.
In the export market, Vietnam's export rice prices did not adjust compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice is stable at 470 USD/tonne; Standard 5% broken rice is currently at 567 USD/tonne, and 25% broken rice is at 545 USD/tonne.
Vietnam exported 4.68 million tonnes of rice in the first six months of this year, earning almost $3 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The figures represent an increase of 10.4% in volume and 32% in value over the same period last year.
The country harvested 3.48 million ha of rice in the first half of 2024, up 0.5% year-on-year. The average yield reached 6.7 tonnes per ha, an increase of 0.7 tonnes per ha, bringing the total output to 23.3 million tonnes, up 1.6% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Vietnam spent about $670 million on importing rice from other countries, primary from Cambodia and India.
Although being the world’s second largest rice exporter, the country still imports certain types of rice for the production of animal feed.
