Vietnam's main export products in first half of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - The data from the General Statistics Office showed that Vietnam's export turnover of goods in the first 6 months of 2024 was estimated to reach 190.08 billion USD, up by 14.5% over the same period last year.

In the first 6 months of this year, there were 6 items with the largest export turnover and contributed more than 60% of the country's total export turnover.
The items with the largest export turnover in the first half of 2024 include electronics, computers and components; phones and components; other machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; textile; footwear; wood and wood products.
Exports of electronic products, computers and components in the first 6 months of 2024
According to the General Statistics Office, the export turnover of electronics, computers and components ranked first in the list of key export product groups of Vietnam in the first 6 months of this year with a turnover of 32,911 million USD, an increase 28.6% over the same period last year.
As a product that accounts for an increasingly large proportion of total export turnover, the growth of electronics, computers and components has a large influence on the overall growth of the country's exports. In 2023, the exports of electronics, computers and components ranked first among 7 product groups with a turnover of over 10 billion USD in Vietnam.
According to the General Statistics Office, the exports of electronics, computers and components have become a key export item, contributing to stabilizing the macro economy, creating jobs, and improving the income of workers, as well as directly increasing the production value, having a pervasive impact on the development of related industries, improving labor qualifications, and enhancing domestic production levels to meet the increasing requirements of the international market.
The growth in export turnover of electronics, computers and components has added foreign exchange revenue to the budget, contributing to macroeconomic stability, creating motivation for continued expansion of production and business as well as attracting domestic and foreign investment capital. Besides, the effectiveness of international economic integration has been shown more clearly, Vietnam's largest and most important export markets all achieved very high increases.
Exports of phones and components in the first 6 months of 2024
The export turnover of phone and components group reached 27,202 million USD, up by 11.3% over the same period last year.
For phones and components, Vietnam is currently becoming an important production base for the global electronics manufacturing industry. Taking Apple as an example, since 2019, the company has begun assembling and producing AirPods in Vietnam. Then, in 2020, sources said Apple asked the main assembly plant Foxconn to move part of its iPad and MacBook assembly operations to Vietnam.
In 2021, Foxconn established a new production facility in Vietnam. In addition, Luxshare Precision and Goertek have also located factories in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Apple is also strongly expanding its business in India and is increasing the proportion of iPhones produced in India.
Exports of machinery, equipment and spare parts in the first 6 months of 2024
In the first 6 months of this year, Vietnam's export value of machinery, equipment, tools and other spare parts reached 22,932 million USD, an increase of 16.2% over the same period of 2023.
Exports of textile and garment products in the first 6 months of 2024
Also in the first 6 months of this year, textile and garment revenue reached 16,282 million USD, up by 3.1% over the same period last year.
Exports of footwear products in the first 6 months of 2024
Vietnam's footwear exports in the first 6 months of the year reached 10,840 million USD, up by 10% over the same period last year;
Exports of wood and wood products in the first 6 months of 2024
According to the Import-Export Department (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade), it is estimated that in June of 2024, Vietnam's export value of wood and wood products reached 1.25 billion USD, down by 1.1% compared to May of 2024, but increased by 13.6% compared to June of 2023. Of which, the export value of wood products was estimated at 840 million USD, up by 0.6% compared to May of 2024, but up by 10.4% compared to June of 2023.
In the first 6 months of 2024, wood and wood product exports were estimated to reach 7.4 billion USD, up by 22.2% over the same period of 2023. Of which, the export value of wood products was estimated at 5.03 billion USD, up by 21.4% over the same period of 2023.
Increased demand in many major export markets was the main factor driving positive growth in export activities of wood and wood products in the first months of 2024.
In the structure of exported wood and wood products, wooden furniture is always the main export item with a high export value. In the first 5 months of 2024 alone, the export value of this product reached 3.8 billion USD, up by 25.8% over the same period of 2023.
The Import-Export Department commented that, with the current growth rate, the export prospect of wood and wood products is forecast to continue to maintain a double-digit growth rate with supporting factors such as the commodity cycle. Every year, the trend of increasing imports of wood and wood products, especially wooden furniture groups in major markets, often increases sharply in the last 3 months of the year, when the housing market is completed and the demand for buying and renovating interior equipment to welcome the new year is high.
