Textile and garment exports in May and first 5 months of 2024
Friday, June 28,2024AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2024, Vietnam’s textile and garment export turnover reached over 13.18 billion USD, an increase of 4.2% compared to the first 5 months of 2023.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s exports of textile and garment products in May of 2024 increased by 6.4% compared to April of 2024 but decreased by 5.3% compared to May of 2023, reaching over 2 .76 billion USD. Overall, for the first 5 months of 2024, the country’s total export turnover of textiles and garments reached over 13.18 billion USD, an increase of 4.2% compared to the first 5 months of 2023.
Vietnam's textile and garment exports to the US always rank first in turnover, reaching over 5.64 billion USD, accounting for 42.8% of the country's total textile and garment export turnover, up by 2.6% compared to the previous year.
In the first 5 months of 2023; Vietnam’s exports to Japan ranked second in turnover, reaching over 1.53 billion USD, accounting for 11.6%, an increase of 7.5%. It was followed by the EU market, reaching over 1.47 billion USD, accounting for 11.2%, down by 2.3%; and then the South Korean market reached 1.16 billion USD, accounting for 8.8%, a slight increase of 1.4% and Canada reaching 439.44 million USD, accounting for 3.3%, down by 4.3% compared to the first 5 months of 2023.
Textile and garment exports to the Southeast Asian market accounted for 6.1%, reaching over 808.95 million USD, an increase of 5.2% compared to the first 5 months of 2023.
Vietnam's textile and garment exports to the EU in May and the first 5 months of 2024
Textile and garment exports to the EU accounted for 11.15% of the country’s total textile and garment export markets, reaching over 1.47 billion USD, down by 2.29%.
The statistics figures from the customs data showed that, the total export turnover of Vietnam's textile and garment products to the world markets in the first 5 months of 2024 increased by 4.2% over the same period of 2023, reaching over 13.18 billion USD. In particular, textile and garment exports to the EU accounted for 11.15% of the structure of Vietnam's textile and garment export markets, reaching over 1.47 billion USD, down by 2.29%.
In the EU, the Netherlands and Germany were Vietnam's two largest textile and garment consumption markets, accounting for 48% of total textile and garment export turnover to the EU.
Although export turnover to the Netherlands and Germany in May of 2024 increased compared to April of 2024, up by 25.99% and 24.87% respectively, it still decreased 8.75% and by 21.85% compared to May of 2023. In the first 5 months of 2024, textile and garment export turnover to Germany reached 271.64 million USD, down by 22.27% and to the Netherlands reached over 433.79 million USD, up by 14.04% compared to the first 5 months of 2023.
In the first 5 months of 2024, Vietnam’s exported textiles and garments to 16 markets in the EU; including 6 large markets with export value of over 100 million USD. The Netherlands and Germany were leading and they were followed by markets such as Spain with over 202.9 million USD, down by 0.45% over the same period last year, accounting for 13.8% of the country’s total export turnover of goods to the EU in the first 5 months of 2024. The exports to Belgium reached nearly 157.39 million USD, down by 0.9%, accounting for 10.7%; Exports to France reached over 156.99 million USD, down 3.95%, accounting for 10.68%; and the exports to Italy reached nearly 130.17 million USD, up by 6.28%, accounting for 8.85%.
Notably, in the first 5 months of 2024, although the turnover of textiles and garments to the Czech market was not high, reaching just over 11.73 million USD, but in comparison to the same period in 2023, it increased very strongly by 74.7%. In addition, the exports to the Slovakian market also increased sharply by 57%, reaching over 1.73 million USD.
In contrast, the country’s textile and garment exports to Denmark decreased by 34.76%, reaching over 18.4 million USD; to Austria decreased by 29.88%, reaching over 3.29 million USD; and to Hungary decreased by 29.1%, reaching 545,642 USD.
