Among key markets, Vietnam's goods exports to 6 markets achieved export growth of 1 billion USD or more, including the United States, EU, China, ASEAN, Hong Kong (China), and South Korea.
Vietnam's exports of goods to the US market in May and the first 5 months of 2024
According to the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to the US market in May of 2024 reached more than 9.72 billion USD, an increase of 8.3% compared to the previous month.
In the first 5 months of 2024, Vietnam's export of goods to the US market reached 44.44 billion USD, up by 22.3% over the same period last year (corresponding to an increase of 8.11 billion USD) compared to same period last year, accounting for 28.4% of the country's total export turnover.
With this result, the United States continued to be our country's largest export market.
Currently, more than half of Vietnam's export value to the US is high-tech products (consumer electronics, smart phones), garments and footwear, the rest was other products such as furniture and agricultural products.
In the first 5 months of 2024, leading in export turnover was computers, electronic products and components reaching more than 8.94 billion USD, up by 50% over the same period last year, accounting for 20.1% of the total export proportion.
The next was the group of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with 7.34 billion USD, up by 10.8% over the same period last year, accounting for 16.5%. And then were textile and garment products reaching 5.64 billion USD, accounting for 12.7% of export proportion.
The items with increased export turnover in the first 5 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year included plastic products increased by 43.5%; iron and steel of all kinds increased by 147.4%; pepper increased by 53.4%; animal feed and raw materials increased by 100%; glass and glass products increased by 80.3%; tea increased by 62.1%.
The United States is currently leading Vietnam's export markets. Meanwhile, Vietnam has become a major trading partner of the US and an important link in the supply chain of many goods for the US market.
Among Vietnam's exports to the United States, agricultural products, aquatic products, furniture, decorations, etc. occupy a very important position because these are strong product groups of Vietnam and the US that have great demand.
Vietnam's exports of goods to other key markets in the first 5 months of 2024
In the first 5 months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of goods to the EU reached 20.29 billion USD, an increase of 14.1% (equivalent to an increase of 2.52 billion USD) compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's exports to China reached 22.46 billion USD, an increase of 10.8% (equivalent to an increase of 2.19 billion USD) over the same period last year.
The exports to the ASEAN market reached 14.97 billion USD, an increase of 11.3% (equivalent to an increase of 1.52 billion USD) over the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the exports to Hong Kong reached 4.67 billion USD, an increase of 38% (equivalent to an increase of 1.29 billion USD) over the same period last year.
The exports to the South Korean market reached 10.21 billion USD, an increase of 11.1% (equivalent to an increase of 1.02 billion USD) over the same period last year.
Overall, from the beginning of the year to the end of May, the country's merchandise exports reached 156.28 billion USD, an increase of 14.9% (equivalent to an increase of 20.23 billion USD) compared to the same period last year.
