HCMC’s industrial production index increased

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 5 months of 2024, the industrial production index of Ho Chi Minh city grew by 5.3% over the same period last year, the highest increase in the last 3 years.

The municipal Statistics Department of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported on the socio-economic situation in May and 5 months of 2024 of the city.
Accordingly, in the first 5 months of 2024, the production index of the entire industrial sector in Ho Chi Minh city continued to achieve a growth rate of 5.3% over the same period last year. This is the highest increase in the last 3 years (in the 5 months of 2022 it increased by 3.7%; and in the first 5 months of 2023 it increased by 1.4%). This showed that industrial production activities are recovering.
In particular, industry groups with strong growth include the mining industry, which increased by 42.7%; processing and manufacturing industries increased by 4.9%; electricity production and distribution increased by 11.2%; water supply and waste treatment increased by 1.1%.
For secondary industries, there were 19/30 industries whose industrial production index in the first 5 months of 2024 increased over the same period last year, such as the production of products from rubber and plastic increased by 27.9%; the production of prefabricated metal products increased by 20.6%, the production of chemicals and chemical products increased by 17.7%; the production of products from other non-metallic minerals increased by 13.9%; wood processing and production of products from wood and bamboo increased by 12.1%.
Meanwhile, the production of the key industries of Ho Chi Minh City also increased by 4.5% over the same period last year. For example, the pharmaceutical chemistry industry increased by 18.9%; mechanical industry increased by 1.2%; food processing industry increased by 0.8%.
In the opposite direction, the traditional industries such as costume manufacturing; leather and related products manufacturing industry decreased; the textile industry decreased by 3.3% over the same period last year.
Some major industrial products increased, such as plastic packaging, up by 29.3%; books, notebooks, paper and paper products increased by 24.7%; washing powder and cleaning products increased by 13%; cement increased by 12.4%.
As for some industrial products, there was a sharp decrease such as mineral or chemical fertilizers, down by 13.4%; sports footwear decreased by 10.8%; condensed milk (with cream) decreased by 10.7%.
The consumption index of the entire processing industry also increased by 7.8% over the same period last year. Among them, 11/23 secondary processing and manufacturing industries had increased in consumption index and 12/23 industries had decreased in consumption index.
