Vietnam's seafood exports and imports in the first 4 months of 2024
Thursday, May 23,2024AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, in the first 4 months of 2024, Vietnam’s seafood exports reached nearly 2.72 billion USD, an increase of 5.7% compared to the first 4 months of 2023.
Meanwhile, the import turnover of all kinds of seafood to Vietnam in the first 4 months of 2024 reached over 791.63 million USD, down by 7.6% compared to the first 4 months of 2023.
Vietnam’s main seafood export markets in April and the first 4 months of 2024
Vietnam’s exports of seafood products in April 2024 increased by 4.6% compared to March 2024 and increased by 4.4% compared to April 2023, reaching nearly 776.01 million USD. Overall, in the first 4 months of 2024, the exports of this product group reached nearly 2.72 billion USD, an increase of 5.7% compared to the first 4 months of 2023.
Seafood exported the most to the US market accounted for 17.1% of the country's total export turnover of this product group, reaching over 464.85 million USD, an increase of 12.9% compared to the first 4 months of 2023. In April of 2024 alone, the figure reached 141.83 million USD, a sharp increase of 5.1% compared to March of 2024 and an increase of 10.3% compared to April of 2023.
Japanese market ranked second, accounting for 16.2%, reaching over 441.15 million USD, down by 0.6% over the same period last year. In April of 2024 alone, the exports to this market reached 119.63 million USD, down by 4% compared to March of 2024 and down by 1.8% compared to April of 2023.
The next was the Chinese market. In April of 2024, the country’s exports of seafood to China increased by 39.4% compared to March of 2024 and increased 3.9% compared to April of 2023, reaching 130.43 million USD. In the first 4 months of 2024, the exports to this market increased by 10.3% compared to the first 4 months of 2023, reaching nearly 400.44 million USD, accounting for 14.7% of the total export turnover of this product group of the country.
The seafood exports to the FTA RCEP market in the first 4 months of 2024 decreased slightly by 0.03% compared to the first 4 months of 2023, reaching over 1.35 billion USD, accounting for 49.7% of the total turnover; while the exports to the FTA CPTTP market increased by 2.4%, reaching nearly 721.39 million USD, accounting for 26.5%. The exports to the EU market accounted for 10.6% of total turnover, reaching over 287.61 million USD, an increase of 6.5%. The exports to the Southeast Asian market accounted for 6.4% of total turnover, reaching over 173.27 million USD, down by 19.5%.
Vietnam's main seafood import markets in April and the first 4 months of 2024
According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, the import turnover of all kinds of seafood to Vietnam in the first 4 months of 2024 reached over 791.63 million USD, down by 7.6% compared to the first 4 months of 2023.
In April of 2024 alone, the import turnover of this product group reached nearly 173.3 million USD, down by 19.8% compared to March of 2024 and down by 10.5% compared to April of 2023.
In the first 4 months of 2024, India, Norway, Indonesia, China and Japan were the main markets supplying seafood to Vietnam. The imports from Norway led in turnover, reaching 97.96 million USD, accounting for 12.4% of the country's total import turnover of this product group, an increase of 3.8% compared to the first 4 months of 2023. In April of 2024 alone, the country’s imports of seafood from this market reached 24.86 million USD, down by 10.9% compared to March of 2024 but up by 1.5% compared to April of 2023.
Indonesian market ranked second. The imports from this market in April of 2024 decreased by 37.3% compared to March of 2024 and decreased by 4.1% compared to April of 2023, reaching 13.34 million USD, bringing total import turnover in the first 4 months of 2024 to 92.72 million USD, accounting for 11.7%, an increase of 23.7% compared to the first 4 months of 2023.
The next was the Chinese market with 85.8 million USD in the first 4 months of 2024, accounting for 10.9%, an increase of 17.1%; India reached 83.01 million USD, accounting for 10.5%, down by 36.7%; Japan reached 51.35 million USD, accounting for 6.5%, up by 2.7%.
The imports from FTA RCEP markets reached 291.1 million USD, up by 11.7% over the same period in 2023; the imports from CPTTP markets reached 94.36 million USD, down by 22%; and the imports from Southeast Asian markets reached 121.57 million USD, an increase of 12.4%.
