DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices fell by 200-400 VND on May 21, 2024

 Tuesday, May 21,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area decreased by 200-400 VND to VND103,100 – VND103,600 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND103,600/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND103,100. Robusta coffee fell to VND103,100 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND 103,400- VND103,500 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND103,500- VND 103,600 in Dak Nong; to VND103,300 per kg in Kon Tum, and VND103,200 per kg- VND103,300 in Gia Lai.

Despite recent rainfall, Vietnam projected a decline in its coffee yield for the 2024-2025 crop compared to the current crop, as coffee cherries and trees have been unable to fully recover from the preceding drought. Moreover, the anticipated return of La Nina, which will replace El Nino in the latter half of 2024, presents the risk of storms and floods during the crucial late harvest season. The aforementioned challenges, coupled with the current low coffee inventory levels among farmers, poses as a significant obstacle in promoting coffee sales. Consequently, Vietnam's coffee supply is expected to face considerable difficulties in the near future.
Coffee farmers have sharply increased use of irrigation in the main producing regions of the country amid excessive dryness, but they are now running low on water.
So far this season, many farmers have used irrigation as much as seven times already, compared with five times usually in a normal season, and they are seeing the need to irrigate coffee trees for an eighth time if they have water, said J.Ganes Consulting LLC in notes from a crop tour in Vietnam.
