DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices remained unchanged on May 20, 2024
Monday, May 20,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area remained unchanged at VND103,300 – VND104,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.
Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND104,000/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND103,300. Robusta coffee stayed at VND103,300 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND103,800- VND103,900 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND104,000 in Dak Nong; to VND103,400 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND103,300 per kg- VND103,400 in Gia Lai.
Experts say that coffee has many positive supporting factors. Robusta coffee supply continues to be scarce from Vietnam, and is expected to last until the new crop. The General Department of Vietnam Customs reported last Friday that Vietnam's April coffee exports decreased 19.5% year-on-year to 152,073 tons.
Last year's El Nino weather has supported coffee prices increasing in recent times. El Nino often brings heavy rain to Brazil and drought to India and Southeast Asian countries, negatively impacting the coffee production of these countries.
US-based Mordor Intelligence has projected the size of the Vietnamese coffee market at US$511.03 million in 2024 and up to $763.46 million in 2029 with a compound annual growth rate of 8.13 percent. Coffee planted in Việt Nam has been exported to more than 70 countries and territories around the world. Being the second-biggest coffee exporter behind Brazil, Việt Nam only ranks sixth in coffee area. But its productivity is the greatest at 1.4 times higher than that of Brazil, 2.8 higher than Colombia, and 4.5 times higher than Indonesia.
Experts have forecast that Việt Nam’s coffee production in the 2023-2024 season could be reduced by 10 per cent to 1,656 million tonnes, the lowest in four years due to drought. The global Robusta reserve has been shaky, leading to market volatility amid fears of a shortage.
