DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on May 14, 2024

 Tuesday, May 14,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND102,000 - VND103,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

The maximum price for pepper stayed at VND103,000 per kg in Dac Lac and Ba Ria –Vung Tau province while the lowest price at VND102,000 per kg in Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai and in Binh Phuoc. Particularly, the price in Dac Nong increased by 500 VND to 103,000 VND per kg.
Vietnam exported 83,067 tonnes of pepper, valued at 352 million USD in the first four months of this year, down 19.4% in volume but up 10.3% in value, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) has reported. The average export price of black pepper was 4,065 USD per tonne and white pepper 5,678 USD per tonne, up 19.4% and 14.5%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2023.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, drought in Espírito Santo and Bahia states is expected to affect the ongoing harvest (April to June) in Brazil. It is expected that total Brazilian pepper production will only reach about 95-100 thousand tons, equivalent to 2023, lower than the forecast of 105 thousand tons by the end of 2023 of the International Pepper Association (IPC).

In 2024, due to climate change difficulties, pepper prices will remain low while the prices of other agricultural products increase. At the same time, the rise in prices of different farm products will put pressure on reducing cultivated area, while pepper productivity will also be reduced due to moderate investment in caring for and maintaining pepper gardens.
Vietnam pepper production is expected to reach 170,000 tons in 2024, the lowest output since 2015. Dak Nong has the most significant output, accounting for 41.2 percent, followed by Dak Lak with 28.2 percent. The six central pepper-producing provinces account for 97.1% of the country's production.
