DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices decreased by 2,500 VND on May 6, 2024
Monday, May 6,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area fell by 2,500 VND to VND109,500 – VND110,200 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.
Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND101,500/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND100,000. Robusta coffee decreased to VND100,000 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND100,900 per kg - VND101,000 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND101,400 - VND101,500 in Dak Nong; to VND100,000 per kg in Kon Tum, and in Gia Lai.
Coffee export businesses in the Central Highlands region predict that coffee prices could continue to escalate sharply until the end of this year, potentially reaching a new peak of VND200,000-VND250,000 per kg. At this level, domestic coffee producers may struggle, while foreign-invested enterprises could potentially monopolize the market and exert price manipulation.
During the early days of May, the persistent and unusually intense heatwave shows no signs of abating, which is expected to exacerbate the current coffee price surge. There is a high probability that coffee prices will continue to move up in the upcoming weeks. In the Central Highlands, some coffee plantations are experiencing drought-induced losses due to inadequate irrigation. The coffee supply is currently in a dire shortage and is anticipated to remain scarce for a prolonged period. The General Statistics Office said that coffee exports in April 2024 reached 170,000 tonnes, valued at more than 644 million USD, down 10% in volume and 4.1% in turnover compared to the previous month; but increase 3.9% in volume and increase sharply 61.5% in turnover compared to the same period in 2023.
In the first 4 months of this year, coffee exports reached 755,696 tonnes, valued at more than 2.57 billion USD, an increase of 5.4% in volume and a sharp increase of 57.9% in turnover compared to the same period in 2023. The average export coffee price in April 2024 increased to 3,791 USD/tonne, up 6.6% over the previous month and up 55.4% over the same period in 2023. Overall in the first 4 months, the average export coffee price reached 3,402 USD/tonne, an increase of 49.7% over the same period in 2023.
