Friday, April 26,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area rose by 2000 VND to VND130,500 – VND133,200 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.
Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND133,200 /kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND132,500. Robusta coffee increased to VND132,500 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND132,900 per kg - VND133,000 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND133,100 - VND133,200 in Dak Nong; to VND132,700 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND132,700 - 132,800 per kg in Gia Lai.
The Central Highlands region includes 5 provinces: Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong. Lam Dong has a total coffee area of about 639,000 hectares, accounting for 92% of the country's total coffee area. This year, the price of green coffee has reached a record high, pleasing farmers.
This year's agricultural product price fever is different from other years. If last year, prices decreased during the main season, this year it will not be the same. The reason is that starting from the 2022 - 2023 crop year, Vietnam's coffee inventory is at its lowest level ever. The shortage continues to this day and occurs in many other coffee producing countries, causing prices to increase rapidly and with no end in sight. Tight robusta coffee supplies from Vietnam, the world's largest producer of robusta coffee beans, are a major bullish factor. On March 26, Vietnam's agriculture department projected that Vietnam's coffee production in the 2023/24 crop year would drop by 20% year on year to 1.472 millions tonnes, the smallest crop in four years, due to drought. Also, the Vietnam Coffee Association said that Vietnam's 2023/24 coffee exports would drop by 20% year on year to 1.336 millions tonnes. In addition, Marex Group Plc forecasts a global 2024/25 robusta coffee deficit of 2.7 million bags due to reduced output in Vietnam. This past year's El Nino weather event has been bullish for coffee prices. An El Nino pattern typically brings heavy rain to Brazil and drought to India, negatively impacting coffee crop production. The El Nino event has brought drought to Vietnam's coffee areas this year, according to an official from Vietnam's Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Climate Change.
