DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices increased by 2000 VND on April 25, 2024

 Thursday, April 25,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area rose by 2000 VND to VND130,500 – VND131,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND131,500 /kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND130,500. Robusta coffee increased to VND130,500 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND131,400 per kg - VND131,500 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND131,400 - VND131,500 in Dak Nong; to VND131,000 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND131,000 - 131,100 per kg in Gia Lai.
The Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association said that the main reason for the increase in coffee is due to the lowest coffee inventory from Vietnam's old crop in history. In previous years, every year Vietnam had inventory of about 120,000 - 150,000 tonnes. However, in the 2023 crop year, inventory output was very low, only 50% of previous years. Meanwhile, the output of the 2023 - 2024 crop year is also estimated to decreased by 10% compared to the previous crop year.
Domestic coffee prices have increased recently because only Vietnam harvests during this time. Indonesia harvests around April-May, while Brazil harvests around July.
According to the Vietnam Coffee Cocoa Association, the country predicts a 20 percent drop in production in the current crop year. “Combined with the fact that the market is ‘waiting for rain’ in Vietnam’s coffee region, the supply situation will probably remain tense,” the association said in a recent report.
Meanwhile, extreme weather in Brazil is affecting arabica, the world’s most widely consumed brew and specialty coffee’s bean of choice.
Arabica futures rose to the highest level since September 2022, partially due to atypical weather in the country’s coffee-growing regions. Minas Gerais, where roughly 30 percent of Brazil’s arabica is grown, has been especially hard hit, with rainfall over three times the average at a crucial time for bean development.
