DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices rose by 1200 VND on April 9, 2024

 Tuesday, April 9,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area increased by 1200 VND to VND104,000 – VND104,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND104,500/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND104,000/kg. Robusta coffee rose to VND104,000 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND104,300 per kg - VND104,500 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND104,400 - VND104,500 in Dak Nong; to VND103,200 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND103,200- VND103,300 per kg in Gia Lai.
Vietnam exported 652,000 tonnes of coffee, valued at 1.66 billion USD to the EU in 2023, dropped by 9% in volume and 10.2% in value from 2022. Vietnam was the second-biggest coffee supplier of the EU in terms of volume and the third-largest supplier in terms of value. Therefore, Vietnam's share in the EU’s total coffee imports increased from 14.85% in 2022 to 16.08% in 2023.
Currently, Vietnamese coffee prices have exceeded 100,000 VND (around 4 USD at the current exchange) per kg - the highest price ever.
Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, said that Vietnam is the largest Robusta coffee-producing country in the world. Roasters around the world still have high demand and are looking for suppliers from Vietnam. In particular, Europe still has a high demand for coffee while Vietnam is almost the only one supplier, at least from now until the end of April 2024.
According to export businesses, Vietnamese Robusta coffee has a relatively solid and irreplaceable position in the world market. Despite the supply shortage, Vietnamese coffee is still sought after by foreign roasters. This provides the basis and room for coffee export prices to continue to increase. Trade associations and businesses predicted that because supply has decreased significantly, both farmers and businesses will run out of coffee stocks by the end of April. The phenomenon has never happened in the past 30 years in the Vietnamese coffee industry.
According to the European Coffee Federation, the EU has the highest per capita coffee consumption in the world. Its coffee market is expected to reach 47.88 billion USD in 2024 and 58.14 billion USD in 2029, an average growth of 3.96% in the 2024-2029 period.
