DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices remained unchanged on April 8, 2024

 Monday, April 8,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area remained unchanged at VND103,000 – VND103,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND103,500/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND103,000/kg. Robusta coffee stayed at VND103,000 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; at VND103,200 per kg - VND103,300 per kg in Dak Lak; at VND103,400 - VND103,500 in Dak Nong; at VND103,200 per kg in Kon Tum, and at VND103,200- VND103,300 per kg in Gia Lai.
The price of exported coffee has increased but the supply of Vietnamese coffee has dwindled and there is not much inventory. The Vietnam Coffee Association (Vicofa) said that Vietnam's coffee export volume in the 2023-2024 crop year is estimated to decrease by 20% compared to the previous crop year to 1.336 million tonnes.
Due to the effects of climate change, in Vietnam, this year's dry season comes earlier than usual and prolonged hot weather causes water levels at dams in some provinces to rapidly decrease. Fears that drought could affect crops caused coffee prices to increase sharply in the past week. It is forecast that from at least now until May 2024, prices will not show signs of cooling down because the amount of goods from Brazil and Indonesia cannot compensate.
In addition, concerns that recent heavy rains in Brazilian growing areas may have caused damage to coffee trees, pushing Arabica up to 12% in the past week.
Financial services company Marex Group has predicted a global shortage of around 2.7 million bags of robusta coffee in the 2024-25 season due to a decrease in production in Vietnam.
The country’s exports in 2023-24 would decrease to 1.4 million tons, it forecast.
In the first quarter of this year Vietnam exported 799,000 tons of coffee, up 44% year-on-year, for $1.9 billion, according to data from the General Department of Customs.
The average price is currently at $3,181 per ton, up 43.5% from a year earlier.
