DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices increased by 1500 VND on April 3, 2024
Wednesday, April 3,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area rose by 1500 VND to VND99,600 – VND100,200 per kg compared to Yesterday due to limited supply, according to Kinhtedothi.
Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND100,200/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND99,600 /kg. Robusta coffee rose to VND99,600 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND 100,000 per kg - VND100,100 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND100,100 – VND100,200 in Dak Nong; to VND100,000 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND100,000 – VND100,100 per kg in Gia Lai.
Robusta coffee prices skyrocketed after the Vietnam Coffee Association said that Vietnam's 2023/2024 coffee exports could decrease by up to 20% over the same period due to dry weather reducing output. Previously, Marex Group Plc forecast that the global Robusta coffee deficit in the 2024/2025 crop would be about 2.7 million bags due to reduced output in Vietnam.
According to the General Statistics Office, Viet Nam shipped nearly 799,000 tonnes of coffee, valued at US$1.9 billion in January-March period, with average price of US$3,500 - US$4,000 per tonne; increased by more than 44% in volume and more than 54% in value compared to the same period in 2023. Thus, coffee export turnover has set a historical record, becoming the fastest growing agricultural export product in first quarter of this year.
Experts say that the first 3 months of 2024 are considered a "golden period" for Robusta coffee prices when they continuously set unprecedented peaks in history. Low supply in main exporting countries, combined with strong demand in leading import markets, has created dual support for the recent increase in coffee prices.
The Southeast Asian nation is the second largest coffee producer and exporter in the world and its coffee has been exported to 70 countries and territories.
Lam Dong province in the Central Highlands and Son La province in Northwest Viet Nam are the major Robusta cultivation hubs.
Vietnam's coffee prices are expected to continue to increase due to limited supply while the export of these products has also enjoyed relative growth, according to insiders.
According to the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association (Vicofa), Vietnam’s coffee production for the 2023-2024 crop will decline by 20% compared to the previous crop, to more than 1.33 million tonnes.
