The Southeast Asian nation is the second largest coffee producer and exporter in the world and its coffee has been exported to 70 countries and territories.
Lam Dong province in the Central Highlands and Son La province in Northwest Viet Nam are the major Robusta cultivation hubs.
Last year, coffee exports decreased by 9.6 percent to 1.61 million tonnes but export revenue rose to a record high of US$4.18 billion.
Vietnam's coffee prices are expected to continue to increase due to limited supply while the export of these products has also enjoyed relative growth, according to insiders. Domestic coffee prices continuously set new records and are about to approach 100,000 VND (about 4 USD) per kg.
Coffee is the second biggest export turnover earner among agricultural products, just behind wood products. It is attributable to the fact that coffee prices have increased by 43.5% over the same period last year and reached an average of 3,181 USD per tonne.
Export coffee prices have increased, but there’s not much coffee left in stock. According to the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association (Vicofa), Vietnam’s coffee production for the 2023-2024 crop will decline by 20% compared to the previous crop, to more than 1.33 million tonnes.
