Vietnamese coffee market share in Belgium increased to 20.08%

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's coffee market share in Belgium's total imports from the non-EU market increases from 17.13% in 2022 to 20.08% in 2023.

Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited calculated data from Eurostat as saying that in 2023, Belgium's coffee imports from non-EU markets reached 288,510 tonnes, worth nearly 1.12 billion EUR (equivalent to 1.12 billion EUR), equivalent to 1.22 billion USD), down 26.9% in volume and 31% in value compared to 2022.
In 2023, average import price of Belgian coffee from the non-EU market reach 3,876 EUR/tonne, down 5.6% compared to 2022.
In particular, average import price of Belgian coffee from most non-EU markets decreased; decrease from Honduras was 14.4%, to 5,172 EUR/tonne; from Vietnam decreased by 2.7% to 2,391 EUR/tonne.
Regarding supply structure, in 2023, Belgium imports coffee mainly from sources outside the EU, including: Brazil, Vietnam, Honduras, Colombia, Peru...
In particular, Belgium imported coffee from Brazil in 2023 reaching 78,990 tonnes, worth 273.36 million EUR (equivalent to 299.07 million USD), down 40.8% in volume and down 46.7% in value compared to 2022.
Brazil's coffee market share in Belgium's total imports from the non-EU market decreases from 33.8% in 2022 to 27.38% in 2023. In 2023, Belgium's coffee imports from Vietnam reached 57,940 tonnes, worth 138.51 million EUR (equivalent to 151.54 million USD), down 14.3% in volume and down 16.6% in value compared to 2022.
Vietnam's coffee market share in Belgium's total imports from the non-EU market increases from 17.13% in 2022 to 20.08% in 2023.
Similarly, in 2023, Belgium reduced coffee imports from other foreign markets such as Honduras and Colombia, however, rate of decrease will be lower than decrease from markets of Peru, Brazil or Vietnam.
According to data from General Department of Customs, in the first 2 months of 2024, Vietnam's coffee exports reached approximately 398,820 tonnes, worth 1.25 billion USD, an increase of 16.4% in volume and an increase of 68.0% in value compared to the same period in 2023. Vietnam's average coffee export price in the first 2 months of 2024 reached 3,146 USD/tonne, an increase of 44.5% over the same period in 2023.
In February 2024, Vietnam's coffee exports to many traditional markets decreased compared to February 2023, except for Italy, Spain, Indonesia, and the Netherlands. In the first 2 months of 2024, our country's coffee exports to most traditional markets increased compared to the same period in 2023, except Belgium. Notably, Vietnam's coffee exports to the Indonesian market recorded a growth rate of up to 3 digits in February and the first 2 months of 2024.
