Ho Chi Minh City leads the country in exporting goods
Monday, March 18,2024AsemconnectVietnam - By the end of February 2024, Ho Chi Minh City's merchandise export turnover reached 6.6 billion USD, up 16.6% over the same period last year, leading the country.
According to the latest published data of General Department of Customs, by the end of February 2024, export turnover of Ho Chi Minh City reached 6.6 billion USD, up 16.6% over the same period last year. With the above-mentioned result, Ho Chi Minh City ranks first in the country in export turnover.
Previously, according to data from Statistics Department of Ho Chi Minh City announced that import-export situation of the City in February 2024 did not show many signs of improvement. However, export turnover through the city's port in the first 2 months of 2024 reached 6.3 billion USD, an increase of 11.6% over the same period. Import value through the city's port reached 8.5 billion USD, up 8.6% over the same period. Accordingly, the City's trade balance of goods has a trade deficit of 2.2 billion USD, in contrast to the country's trade balance of goods of 4.7 billion USD.
The second is Thai Nguyen with export turnover reaching 6.48 billion USD, an increase of 30.9%. Previously, in January 2024, Thai Nguyen's export turnover reached 3.8 billion USD, an increase of 49% and held No.1 position. Entering February 2024, although it no longer holds the leading position in exports but Thai Nguyen's export results still achieve positive growth compared to the same period in 2023.
The third position belongs to Bac Ninh with a turnover of 5.34 billion USD, but down by 930 million USD compared to the same period last year. Among main export localities with a turnover of billions of dollars, Bac Ninh is the only locality with a decrease in turnover.
In addition to three above-mentioned localities, by the end of February, there were 13 provinces and cities with export turnover of 1 billion USD or more, an increase of 4 localities compared to the same period last year. Four new localities joining the billion-dollar club are Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ha Nam, Long An and Tay Ninh.
By the end of February 2024, the country's total export turnover reached 59.2 billion USD, up 19% over the same period last year.
