Volume of goods through seaport recorded high growth in 2 months

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 2 months of the year, the total volume of goods through the seaport was estimated to reach 111.614 million tons, an increase of 8% over the same period of 2023.

According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration (under the Ministry of Transport), the output of goods through seaports in the first 2 months of 2024 increased over the same period last year, of which the figure of January of 2024 increased by 43%. The volume of other goods also tend to grow such as export goods (estimated at 28,684 million tonnes, up by 8%), the volume of imported goods estimated at 33,884 million tonnes (up by 16%), the volume of domestic goods estimated at 48,593 million tonnes (up by 4%) and the volume of goods in transit were estimated at 454,000 tonnes.
For containerized goods, the output of goods through seaports in terms of Teu in the first 2 months of 2024 was estimated to reach 4,054 million Teus, an increase of 27% over the same period last year. Of which, the exports were estimated at 1,323 million Teus (up by 20%), the imports were estimated at 1,252 million Teus (up by 19%) and domestic goods were estimated at 1,478 million Teus (up by 40%).
Notably, January - the first month of 2024 also witnessed a strong growth in the volume of goods through seaports. The reason was because January of 2023 was Tet month so the volume of goods was the lowest. Meanwhile, January this year was the month leading up to Tet - the time when the volume of goods is usually the highest of the year in preparation for Tet. Accordingly, the volume of goods in the first month of 2024 reached 68.716 million tonnes (excluding goods in transit without loading or unloading at the port), an increase of 43% over the same period in 2023. Cargo output in Teu reached 2.4 million Teus, an increase of 52%.
Along with the increase in the volume of goods throughput, the volume of container goods through the port in January also increased by 51% compared to the same period of 2023. Of which, Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, and Hai Phong all saw growth from 43-53% over the same period last year, Quang Ninh increased by 34.2%, some other areas with increased output such as Hue increased by 200%, Thanh Hoa increased by 64.8%, Dong Thap and Nghe An increased by 58%, Quang Ngai increased by 62%, Dong Nai increased by 32%. The areas of Nha Trang, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Can Tho all increased by over 10%. Particularly, the areas of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and An Giang recorded a low decrease.
