DAILY: Vietnamese live pig prices decreased slightly in the North on February 20
Tuesday, February 20,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, Vietnam’s domestic live pig price fluctuated between 53,000 - 58,000 VND/kg, according to Kinhtedothi. Compared to Yesterday, prices decreased slightly in the North, stabilized in the Central region but increased slightly in the South.
Price of live pigs in the North
The price of live pigs in the North decreased slightly to about 57,000 - 58,000 VND/kg. Accordingly, the price of live pigs in Yen Bai province decreased by 1,000 VND/kg to 57,000 VND/kg.
This is also the lowest price in the region recorded in the provinces of Bac Giang, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh and Tuyen Quang.
The remaining localities traded stably.
Price of live pigs in the Central - Central Highlands
Pig prices in the Central - Central Highlands are stable at 53,000 - 57,000 VND/kg.
In detail, localities including Quang Tri, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan traded at 53,000 VND/kg, the lowest in the region.
The remaining provinces remained flat compared to yesterday.
Pig prices in the South
In the southern region, live pig prices today increased slightly, fluctuating between 53,000 - 55,000 VND/kg.
Currently, Vinh Long, Ben Tre and Soc Trang provinces recorded an increase of 1,000 VND/kg, trading between 54,000 - 55,000 VND/kg, depending on the region. The remaining localities did not record new fluctuations.
At the end of 2023, the pig inventory is estimated at 26.342 million pigs (not including more than 4 million nursing piglets), an increase of 4.2% over the same period in 2022. Since 2019, the pig population has seen an average annual growth rate of 6.94%.
It is estimated that the total pork production will reach 4.866 million tons (live slaughter weight) in 2023, an increase of 7.2% over the same period in 2022. Since 2019, pork production has seen an average annual growth rate of 4.3%.
Domestically produced pork accounts for 62.1% of the total meat output of livestock in 2023.
The average price of feed ingredients in 2023 was less than the average price in 2022. Corn prices decreased the most (-12.5%). However, compared to 2020 (before the impact of the Covid pandemic), feed prices are still 32-46% higher depending on the type.
The average price of live pigs for slaughter in 2023 is estimated at 53.8 thousand VND/kg live, 3.2 thousand VND lower than the average in 2022.
In 2023, Vietnam imported an estimated 116 thousand tons of pork, accounting for 3% of total domestic pork consumption and an increase of about 1.8% compared to 2022. In addition, Vietnam imported about 122.45 thousand tons of pork byproducts, an increase of 76.7% compared to 2022.
In the first 11 months of 2023, Vietnam exported 999 female pigs and 68 male pigs, 5,700 piglets, and 700 slaughter pigs.
According to estimates by the Department of Livestock, pork production in Vietnam in 2024 is estimated to reach 4.9 million tons, an increase of 4% compared to 2023.
