Exported products reaching over 1 billion USD in the first half of January 2024

The latest preliminary statistics from General Department of Customs show that Vietnam's total import-export turnover of goods in the first 15 days of 2024 (January 1-15, 2024) reached 29.79 billion USD.
Compared to the same period in 2023, import and export in the first 15 days of January 2024 increased by 4.3% (equivalent to an increase of 1.24 billion USD). Out of which, export turnover increased by 3.3% (equivalent to an increase of 488 million USD); Import turnover increased by 5.4% (equivalent to an increase of 752 million USD).
In just the first half of January 2024, there were 4 products with export turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 53.2% of total export turnover.
Among them, 4 product groups recorded a turnover of 1 billion USD or more, down 1 group compared to the same period last year.
Product group leaving the billion dollar mark is footwear with a turnover of only 820 million USD, while the same period in 2023 reached 1.03 billion USD.
4 product groups that maintained billion-dollar results like last year include: Phones and components; computers, electronic products and components; machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts; textile and garment with turnover respectively: 2.86 billion USD; 2.25 billion USD; 1.63 billion USD; 1.29 billion USD.
Notably, with the above turnover, phones and components have regained the number 1 position in exports from the group of computers, electronic products and components.
Among the four billion-dollar groups, only the two leading groups showed positive growth, while machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; Textile and garment turnover decreased compared to the same period last year.
In opposite direction, Vietnam's total import turnover in the first half of January 2024 reached 14.7 billion USD, an increase of 7.6% (equivalent to an increase of 1.04 billion USD) compared to the results in the first half of December 2023. Product groups with notable increases include: Computers, electronic products and components increased by 508 million USD (equivalent to an increase of 13.5%); Phones of all types and components increased by 112 million USD (equivalent to an increase of 32.1%); all kinds of iron and steel increased by 104 million USD (equivalent to an increase of 24.8%)...
In the first half of January 2024, Vietnam's goods trade balance had a surplus of 384 million USD.
