Exporting goods to Germany: Open opportunities
Tuesday, January 23,2024AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's goods exports to Germany increased from 6.64 billion USD in 2020 to 7.4 billion USD in 2023.
In recent years, with main complementary commodity structure, trade relations between Vietnam and Germany have continuously developed and achieved many remarkable achievements. Total import-export turnover of goods between two countries in 2023 reached over 11 billion USD.
Germany remains one of Vietnam's most important export partners in EU market in particular and the world in general. If in 2020, Vietnam's export turnover to the German market reached USD 6.64 billion USD, then by 2023, Vietnam's export turnover to this market reached 7.4 billion USD.
In EU market, Germany is Vietnam's major export market, accounting for nearly 20% of Vietnam's export turnover to this bloc. This is partly due to big purchasing power of German market and partly because Germany is a gateway for Vietnamese goods to other markets in EU.
Vietnam has many strong products that German consumers have high demand for or are increasing in demand for such as: furniture, garments, shoes, coffee, tropical fruits and vegetables...
Vietnam Trade Office in Germany said opportunity to bring Vietnamese goods into Germany is still high. German consumers are willing to use good quality products with competitive prices from developing countries.
Besides, total amount of Asians in general and Vietnamese in particular living, working and studying in Germany has been increasing in recent years. This group of consumers tends to use a lot of Asian products, including Vietnamese products. Besides, advantages from the EVFTA agreement are also good opportunities for Vietnam's exports.
In terms of ranking, Germany occupies the 7th position in the Top of Vietnam's largest export markets, but in terms of market share, exports to Germany only account for 2.4% of Vietnam's total export turnover to the world. It can be seen that a potential for Vietnam to export to this market is huge.
According to data from General Department of Customs, in 2023, Vietnam export turnover of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts to the German market is 1.18 billion USD; all kinds of footwear 0.94 billion USD; phones and phone components 0.91 billion USD; textiles 0.84 billion USD; computers, electronic products and components 0.71 billion USD.
In opposite direction, Vietnam imports from German market products including: machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts (1.29 billion USD); chemicals (0.47 billion USD); pharmaceuticals (0.32 billion USD); chemical products (0.24 billion USD); computers, electronic products and components (0.17 billion USD).
To promote trade relations between two countries, German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam has also organized many trade activities and connected enterprises of two countries. Information from this unit said that German Association for Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Transport (BME) together with Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia represent German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection to organize 2024 Purchasing Initiative this coming February.
This year, this activity continues to focus on metal structures, mechanical processing parts such as casting and forging, stamping and bending parts, injection molding, plastic and electronic components and solder assemblies, manufacturing materials and drawing parts.
According to German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam, there will be two online seminars directly connecting Vietnamese enterprises with German enterprises to get acquainted, provide more detailed information from the parties and open future cooperation opportunities. Participating businesses will receive information directly from German buyers about effective business practices and gain a clear understanding of requirements and needs of German enterprises.
