According to Da Nang City’s Department of Industry and Trade, in 2023, due to complex and unpredictable fluctuations of the world economic situation, decrease in world aggregate demand has negatively affected the city's import and export activities.
Although at the end of 2023, export activities showed signs of improvement, however, overall value for the whole year 2023 still decreased. The city's export turnover of goods for the whole year 2023 reached 1,864 million USD, down 11.6% compared to 2022; Out of which, domestic enterprises were estimated at 820 million USD, down 12.3%; foreign-invested enterprises were estimated at 1,040 million USD, down 11%.
Export turnover of some key products decreased significantly such as textiles and garments estimated at 484 million USD, down 10.7%; Seafood was estimated at 211 million USD, down 11%; Handicrafts and wooden products were estimated at 22 million USD, down 8.3%; Children's toys were estimated at 98 million USD, down 8.4%; Engines, electrical equipment and electronic products were estimated at 623 million USD, down 9.4% (except for finished rubber products, estimated at 137 million USD, up 4.2%).
Although most products with large export turnover decreased, software exports emerged as they maintained strong growth momentum.
According to Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang City, in 2023, the city's software export turnover reached 147.8 million USD, reaching 101.25% of the plan and increasing by 12% compared to 2022.
Besides, software export turnover in Da Nang city has maintained a continuous double-digit growth momentum in recent years. In a period of 2015 - 2020, growth rate of software exports increased by an average of 15%/year. In a period of 2021 - 2023, growth rate of software exports increased by an average of 16.3%. Among them, Japan and the US are the largest export markets.
By the end of 2023, entire city of Da Nang has more than 50,000 human resources in field of information technology. Out of which, 22,000 workers are in a field of software and digital content.
With focused investment in information technology industry, by 2024, Da Nang City aims for information technology industry to contribute about 10% to the city's total gross product (GRDP). It will promote development of semiconductor chip and artificial intelligence industry. Strive for software export revenue to increase by 9 - 10% compared to 2023, reaching about 161.8 million USD.
