Monday, January 22,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained stagnant at VND79,500 to VND82,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.
The maximum price for pepper stayed at VND82,500 per kg in Dac Lac and Dac Nong, while in Dong Nai province, the lowest price at VND79,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND82,000 per kilogram, in Gia Lai province for VND80,000 per kilogram, and in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province for VND81,500 per kilogram.
Last week, pepper prices increased by 2,000 VND/kg. Compared to the same period last year, pepper prices have increased by an average of 22,000 VND/kg.
This week, experts expect prices will be supported thanks to consolidated purchase orders before Vietnam enters the Lunar New Year holiday. However, prices will not increase sharply.
At the end of last week's trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed Lampung (Indonesia) black pepper price at 3,913 USD/ton, an increase of 0.03%; Brazilian black pepper price ASTA 570 is at 3,850 USD/ton; Kuching (Malaysia) ASTA black pepper price remained at 4,900 USD/ton.
Muntok white pepper price was 6,169 USD/ton, up 0.02%; Malaysian ASTA white pepper price is still at 7,300 USD/ton.
Vietnam black pepper price was traded at 3,900 USD/ton with 500 g/l type, 550 g/l type at 4,000 USD/ton; White pepper price was at 5,700 USD/ton.
By the end of 2023, domestic pepper prices increased by more than 50% thanks to strong buying demand from China after a long period of closure due to Covid-19.
Right after this year's Lunar New Year holiday, the full harvest will take place in key localities. Currently, some early ripe pepper areas are harvesting. High prices at the beginning of the season and low inventory help farmers feel excited about the new crop.
Recorded by Dak Nong newspaper, pepper prices in the province are reaching about 82,000 VND/kg, 35,000 VND/kg higher than the same period last year. This is the highest price in many years.
Dak Nong currently has 34,000 hectares of pepper, with an output of nearly 70,000 tons. In recent years, pepper farming has had many positive changes, gradually shifting towards organic and ecologically diverse gardens.
Director of Hoang Nguyen Agricultural Cooperative (Thuan Ha commune, Dak Song district) - Ms. Tran Thi Thu, said that this year the pepper growing areas of Dak Nong are developing stably. People's demand for both organic pepper and traditionally produced pepper is also increasing.
At one time, pepper prices remained at 80,000 VND/kg. Pepper produced using organic processes is even higher, from 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg. Therefore, this year's pepper harvest is expected to bring high income to people.
