DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices rose by 500 VND on January 19
Friday, January 19,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 500 VND to VND79,500 to VND82,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.
The maximum price for pepper rose to VND82,500 per kg in Dac Lac and Dac Nong, while in Dong Nai province, the lowest price to VND79,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND82,000 per kilogram, in Gia Lai province for VND80,000 per kilogram, and in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province for VND81,500 per kilogram.
It is forecast that Vietnam's pepper exports will slow down because domestic supply is no longer abundant. Pepper inventories in 2024 will be at their lowest level in many years. This year's pepper crop is forecast to decrease by 10-15% to about 165,000 tonnes due to smaller growing area and unfavorable weather conditions.
In early 2024, export pepper prices were higher than the same period last year. Vietnam currently occupies an important position in pepper production and export, and pepper has built a national brand. To take advantage of business opportunities, many businesses have proactively expanded investment to improve productivity and quality of pepper products.
In 2023, Vietnam exported nearly 270,000 tonnes of pepper, worth nearly 1 billion USD, thanks to Vietnam's export businesses having an advantage over some exporting countries such as India, Malaysia, Indonesia... thanks to EVFTA Agreement, helps reduce import tax on ground or crushed pepper to the EU from 4% to 0%.
In addition, the US reduced importing pepper from India and switched to Vietnamese pepper because of its good price and increasingly high quality. Information that China has increased imports recently also brings good signals to the market.
