 Thursday, January 18,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area fell by 400 VND to VND71,700 – VND72,400 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND72,400/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND71,700. Robusta coffee decreased to VND71,700 in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND72,300 – VND72,400 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND72,300 – VND72,400 in Dak Nong; to VND72,200 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND72,200 – VND72,300 per kg in Gia Lai.
According to experts, data analysis of the November 2023 Market Report of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) shows that global coffee demand is about 10.4 million tonnes in the 2022/2023 crop year, mostly largely compensated for by old crop inventories brought over. Therefore, any supply disruption will cause coffee prices to skyrocket.
Farmers in Central Highlands, Vietnam's largest coffee-producing region, have experienced a profitable year, with coffee earnings surpassing those of paddy farming by 2-4 times, buoyed by record-breaking coffee bean prices.
The Agriculture and Rural Development Departments of these provinces report that these high prices have yielded profits of VND120–200 million per hectare for coffee farmers, an increase of VND60–80 million from the last season.
The Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association forecasts a decrease in the country's coffee production to 1.6–1.7 million tonnes in the 2023–2024 crop year, down from 1.78 million tonnes in the previous year.
