Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND81,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND78,500 per kilogram, and in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province for VND80,500 per kilogram.
Phuc Thinh Import-Export Investment Joint Stock Company said that prices fluctuated significantly in the first two weeks of the year, decreasing at the beginning of the week and increasing at the end of the week, due to low demand at the beginning of the week and some small speculators withdrawing from the market. However, the market is vibrant again when prices are adjusted from different markets such as the US and EU/Asia. At the end of the second week, prices increased slightly by about 0.6%.
Phuc Thinh Company noted that China bought very little in the past 3 months and is likely to return to the market after the Lunar New Year in February. Vietnam's long holiday will start in 3 weeks.
In the last month of 2023, China imported only 1,030 tonnes of pepper from Vietnam. For the whole year of 2023, this market imported a total of 60,135 tonnes, accounting for 22.8% of Vietnam's export market share and an increase of 174% compared to 2022.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association forecasts that pepper exports in 2024 will be favorable and prices will increase due to reduced output. Vietnam has exported all of its harvest in 2023, part of the export is taken from imports as well as inventory from the previous year.
