DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices increased by 1000 VND on December 13
Wednesday, December 13,2023AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 1000 VND to VND76,500 to VND79,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.
In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper rose to VND79,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND77,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND79,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND76,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND78,000 per kilogram.
Pepper prices today continued to increase by 1,000 VND/kg in localities, except for Ba Ria - Vung Tau, which increased by 500 VND/kg compared to the same time yesterday, the second consecutive day of increase, pushing domestic pepper prices closer to 80,000 VND/kg. The price increase is due to concerns that future supply cannot meet export demand. In recent years, facing competition from many other crops with high commercial value such as coffee and durian, the area and output of domestic pepper has been decreasing, from more than 130 thousand hectares in 2020 to only 120 thousand hectares by 2023. The average profit from durian is currently 20 times higher than that of pepper, so it is forecast that pepper area will continue to decrease in the near future.
